According to the US News rankings in Industrial Engineering, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is #1 for non doctoral schools and Berkeley's undergraduate program is ranked 5th. I heard students have more "hands on" and are more prepare to work after they obtain their BS in Cal Poly SLO. On the other hand, I hear Berkeley is a better choice for students looking to attend graduate school. Since I'm hoping to begin work after I get my BS, would SLO be a better choice for me just in case I also get accepted to Berkeley? Any feedback helps. Thanks.

Go to Berkeley. You will simply have more options of all kinds-- jobs and grad schools–when you graduate. Not even close!

Cal Poly is a great school for engineers. However, it’s not as recognized out of state, or even throughout the state. IE is not the most hands on of engineering degrees, I would probably agree with your assesment of Cal Poly creating more hands on engineers for ME or EE. IE is more statistics, resource control, and operations management. IMO, I would think the faculty at Bezerkly to be much more trained to teach this subject. So, go to UCB…

CalPoly is geared for those who want to enter the workforce in 4 years. They are renowned for their engineering department.
UCB is also a good school, but for different reasons.

Basically:
At UCB you’ll learn to why something works, but you won’t know how to build it. At CalPoly, you’ll learn how to build it, but you won’t know how it works.

How do you know? Have you experienced both curriculum?
