I know there are tons of these threads so I'll keep it simple.

What would I be missing if I chose San Diego over Berkeley?

I don't want to sacrifice my education, but the regents scholarship is a very tempting and calming thing to have. Having access to all of the opportunities with the Regents, as well as making nearly everything easier (housing, registration, etc), are all extremely welcome. However, I can't help but worry over the loss of an amazing school like Berkeley.

So that is why I come here to those of you in Berkeley or who plan on attending Berkeley this fall. What opportunities, and anything else really, would I be missing out on if I chose SD over Cal?

Bump. Would really like some input from you Berkeley lovers :).

Final Bump. Help me out guys, most of you come from Berkeley I’m SURE you have opinions ;)

I would go to UCSD and help my parents financially.
UCSD is a good university so you just have to work hard for your great future.

Financially they are pretty much the same though. Berkeley may cost $3-4k more, which isn’t that big of a deal for my parents.

If so… then welcome to Berkeley.
And forget about UCSD regent’s.

Hey dyno, it’d help if we knew a little more about your circumstance/goals. What majors were you admitted to for each college? What are you looking for in your college? What type of job/grad schools are you looking?

Glad to help, but you have to help us help you :)

I was admitted as a math major at UCSD and got into L&S at Cal so technically I’m undeclared, but would still love to go for math.

In college I’m really just wanting to learn as much as possible and do a lot of research. I’m not exactly thinking about a future career right now, but I definitely want to do something with math.

I have a fascination for all of the sciences so I definitely want to take classes in all of them, which I feel gives UCSD a definite boost because of priority registration.

I do want to go to grad school. I wouldn’t mind continuing grad school at whichever school I choose; I honestly have no preference for a grad school right now.

I’ll be happy to answer any questions. Thank you very much for the help :).

I always tell everyone I’m going to college to learn, not for a job. I would definitely appreciate the prestige of Berkeley and the opportunities that degree alone can offer me in my job search after graduating though.
