UCD and UCSB transfer question

I am a California resident but I am transferring from Rutgers University in NJ, I transferred there this spring from ccc. I am hoping to transfer to UCD or UCSB as a Microbiology major. Currently I have a 3.63 transfer gpa, 3.47 overall, I will have all of the general chemistry sequence, half of the physics, and half of the calc completed, along with statistics.

I was reading on assist.org to for UCSB to be admitted to the pre-major I need to have completed the general biology series, which I have not. Does that mean that it will be very unlikely that I get admitted to UCSB at all?

As for UC Davis they require just one of the biological science courses to be completed as well the other half of calc which I have not completed. Does this also mean it will be unlikely that I gain admission?
(both of them also require the gen chem series but I will have that completed so no need to mention)
I put myself in a truly horrible situation, if I don't get into UCD or UCSB, I end up back at CCC in the back of the line of registration which means it will be very challenging to get the orgo, bio, and calc series completed. I also have to go through all of the departments at my CC to see if they will even take rutgers gen chem series and physics class.

I have 74 units (not all transferable) completed at CCC and 13 completed at Rutgers University by the end of this semester, my gpa is a decent upward trend (went from a 2.5->3.6->3.8->4.0) hoping to score another 4.0.

Input would be greatly appreciated.

Don't suggest I take it over the summer... I am already taking the 2nd half of gen chem and the lab block over the summer (I want to go to medical school so doing one course over the summer is bad enough).

Why are you transferring? That will give you an idea on what to do.

If you want to just to pay instate tuition, I would apply to cal state in your shoes. It would be easier. If you want to go to UC, (there is no reason to unless you want to do research), you could go to a CC for a year and finish all your pre reqs, and apply for Fall 2014.

your not in bad shape. You should be able to get into bio if you register early (like now). You can take bio, calc, physics 1st semester… then bio II and o-chem 2nd.

Don’t just apply to just those schools either. Apply to all the UC’s that you can afford.

I just really don’t wanna have to go back to CCC ill be 21 at a CCC makes me feel like a loser lol.

The problem with getting classes again at a CC is when I go back a returning student or a continuing student depending on if I take a 6 week course over the summer. Regardless both of those are pretty much back of the line registration wise making it really hard to get into a bio class.

Yeah thats why I want to go to a UC, research seems like my cup of tea.

I reassessed what I just wrote and essentially right now they would be taking me as a undecided major because I don’t fit into the pre-major, which does really add on to my chances with already being an out of state applicant.

You may think your a loser for going back to a CC at 21 but there are a lot of people transferring to UC’s from CC’s that are a lot older than 21 and they def have a better shot transferring from a California CC than you will transferring from Rutgers.

yea nobody cares how old you are. If anything feel good cuz you can buy beer and some of your classmates can’t lol.

just go back for summer (take some online GE classes) and you will be good for when you transfer.

so you just transferred to rutgers from a cc and now you want to transfer from rutgers to a uc? Is that possible? unless you mean cc to uc? Also if that is the case then you can’t transfer since you will surpass the unit cap of 80 semester combined units from a 4year + CC for UCD. Anyways just be careful about that since you have 74 units now and who knows how UC’s factor 4year units.

plus i am almost certain you have to declare a major to transfer. They do not take undeclared transfers at the junior level. Confirm?

74 not all of them are transferrable. I have 61 transferrable units I will be over the 80 cap by the time I transfer but that really doesn’t mean much. When you go over the cap it doesn’t mean you can’t transfer, that would absolutely ridiculous then people changing their major after an AA would no longer be able to go to a UC lol so I am not too worried about that. Though it does kind of worry me… I finished most of my IGETC thats why I have so many units and I’ve barely started my major prep it seems.

Of course they have a better chance nsws… lol

Norcal I’m saying that I am equivalent to an undeclared major because I don’t fit into the pre-bio program. I applied as Microbio.

Going back to CC I suppose!

Honestly, no one really cares about your age at ccc’s. I am actually worried of being a young transfer, but you do what you have to.
