UCD Hopefuls unite!

Hey guys,
UCD decisions are coming out in around 10 days. I’m freaken scared. I heard that last year, UCD majorly screwed up with its admission decisions. Heard it was really random! That only freaked me out even more. So, let’s compare stats!

I’ll go first…

UC GPA: 3.6
SAT I: 1180 (UGH!!.. I know… I know)
SAT II: 680 IC, 680 Chemistry, 540 Writing
Major: Linguistics
12 community college classes
low-income family
first generation to attend university

EC - Vice Pres of Anime Club Junior year, President Senior year - 4 years
Badminton (Varsity) - 3 years
Spanish Club (Treasurer) - 4 years
CSF - 4 years
NHS - 2 years

So, you guys think there’s a chance for a anime-watching, badminton-playing, languages-loving guy like me at UCD? I’ve already given up on UCI! Dam their lagginess!

Naruto fans and Davis hopefuls unite! woot woot

How come there isn't a UC-Davis board on this website? Did they just forget it by accident? UCD is ranked like in the 40's in US News, so I don't see why it isn't on this website.

I have a 1400, 3.4 GPA, average essays and EC's.

I can't check online though, forgot my ID and password, so don't know how to log on.

Davis is my first choice. I've already been accepted to Riverside, but don't really want to attend there.

Stats: 3.35 UC GPA; SAT I: 1330; SAT II: 600 IC, 570 W, 510 USH; Major: Undeclared-Physical Sciences; Low-Income; First Generation; Improvement in 11th grade; No ECs to speak of other than volunteering once.

I think my chances are somewhat low considering my low GPA and SAT IIs, but I did take the SAT IIs again in January in hopes that I will be able to have a chance at appealing if necessary(I think I did considerably better this time). I'm not sure how hard the Undeclared-Physical Sciences major is to be accepted into, but when i did the application I had no idea what major I wanted so I just clicked one of the 'undeclared' categories.

BTW, lazieeryceboi, I think you have a pretty good chance at getting accepted.

Hey guys-

If it becomes between all of the middle UC's.... I"m honestly stumped. My dad is saying that if that's waht goes down then davis would be my smartest choice because of their notabilty of having a strong law school. Then again, I kind of want to go south since UCSB and UCI seem like really nice places. (UCI has an excellent poly sci program as well). But most importantly it seems that my gf is going to UCLA...so.... yeah...

Davis seems like a great choice though. Who knows, if i get in i'll certainly give it a lot of thought.

wow, it's nice to see a thread where the people have < 4.0, lol

3.5 UC GPA
1350, 770, 740, 620
7 Honors, 7 APs
Varsity Tennis
School's Website Administrator

Davis is my second choice of the mid-tier UCs right after UCI... which still... has... no... results!!!!

davis is not really my top choice...
3.75uc gpa
660v630m = 1290
740 writing, 650 us history, 620 IC

coolman25: you have really good scores, it's so weird why irvine hasn't informed you yet.

A question for you guys: Do your college counselors tell you what averages are needed for each UC and show you the stats of those who did and didn't get in from your school last year?

zagat: well we can find those in the UC booklet or online http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ITU0506.pdf and my counselor didn't tell me, but i guess if i ask her she will but i'm not really concerned about last year's folk, she does a good job of predicting based on each student's stats

Great College town?

have you ever been to Davis?

It appears that there are tons of kids who are well below last year's averages hoping for UCs, more than any other schools. What gives? Do counselors say you will be an exception?

What made you say

to me, it seems like the pool is not too drastically different than last year...

Davis smells like dung :)

It's my observation that many UC hopefuls on this board have UC GPAs considerably below the average it took to get into a particular school last year. Many are not in top 10% of class although 90 plus percent were at most UCs last year and so on.

At my kid's school, there is a book of who applied, who got in and who didn't for several years. There were no big surprises except for athletes. So kids apply to realistic shots.

zagat, not really. I believe it has always been like this. I have followed last year's UCD hopefuls too at the old college confidential site and I noticed that we're almost identical. Not to mention that the buget problems have improved a lot this year, which could be beneficial for us. The UCD representative that I meet at a college convention told me that they're even thinking of raising the admission rate this year because of it.

http://why.ucdavis.edu/admissions/froshSelProcess.cfm

Also, if you had looked that this page under "GPA ranges of Enrolled Students", you'd notice that we're a perfect fit. The majority of students enrolled at UCD has a GPA ranging from 3.3 to 3.69. So don't give up hope, you guys.

The numbers I have for 2004 were considerably higher. Average GPA of admits: 3.99. Averate SAT: 1250.

Enrolled students are those who accepted admission to Davis, while admitted students are students who were given an acceptance at Davis but did not neccessarily apply. There's a lot of Berkeley students who put apply to Davis as a safety.

Understandable, but the average for accepted students is still a meaningful stat. The interesting thing here is how many have SATs above the average and GPAs below. One of my kids will fit that description next year. Please post results with your stats and don't forget class rank!
