UCD Housing

I just know that if you’re 24 and older you HAVE to live in the apartments, I’m sure there will be “younger” people living there too :slight_smile:

My friend transferred to UCLA 2 years ago and told me to live where there are the most transfers, regardless of how terrible the dorms may be. I have my own room and bathroom right now so it will be a huge adjustment but I think I’ll manage :/

Does anyone know how the parking is? I’m going to commuting on the weekends.

@samantha yah i heard :/.

how many 24 & ups do you think there will be… majority of transfers are typically around 20ish right?

@makin it rain-
We’re in the same boat. I’m 19 (one-year transfer…this last year has been hell) and was originally told that under 20s could choose to live in Segundo or Tercero, but at transfer day they basically vetoed that and said “we’re trying to keep all the transfers together.”

I’m still going to live in Castillian, though - it may not be as social as the dorms but it’s my best bet for meeting people and making connections. And I have no problem living with 4 other people.

Im 19 too! I Cant decide whether i wanna live in reshalls or apartments…

Dont exactly like the dorm life but im also worriedill be put with older students if i chose apartments… :(

^ Same worry. And I’m from the Bay too! De Anza? I’d love to live in the other dorms, but the thought of living with freshmen? No thanks…

I’m sorry for being so paranoid, but I just wanted to clarify something. You do have the option of living in apartment that has no affiliation with the school, right?

yes…

nahh. i go to ohlone. i couldnt get into any of the classes i wanted at de anza in the beginning of the yr. haha

deanza transfer here!

i’m also in the same dilemma!! I’m 20 and before transfer day, I was sure that I was gonna go with the residence halls because it’s really the best way to meet people your age and experience college dorming! but…when I took the tour of Castillian, I felt like I was in a cheap Motel. TERRIBLE. my eyes hurt after too.

Nice to see lots of Bay Area transfers on here :slight_smile: and that we’re all around the same year! I’ll be turning 20 later this year (I just have a late birthday). The computer lab that was included in the tour was pretty bad too. It was sooo tiny and stuffy looking. Seriously…plus the entrance was in the middle of the crappy cafeteria. And where you enter Castilian Hall and they show you the main room with where the pool table is…man it looks sketch. Like where drug deals happen or something…

haha yeah i totally agree with where the pool table is. that area looks like it would belong in an old rundown cabin! i can imagine the place being a little scary at night. when i first walked into one of the rooms, the carpet was really icky! gosh, i can’t say anything good about the residence halls =(. haha and also sharing a bathroom with 5 other people?!

the rec room was actually really welcoming and homy

de anza also! and i’m 20 =).

yayyy you should all opt for the SSAs!

Haha I do agree that the computer center in Castilian is tiny. I actually work there, so I can give you any info that you need about it. It is kind of odd for the computer center to be at its current location, BUT the second floor of the dining common is seldomly used as a dining common. 95% of the time it is just a big room for studying.

The computer center is pretty much for people to print and perhaps do online homework with a friend. It’s not too great of a place to socialize or play games as most of the computers are actually small little boxes called WinTerms (which we hopefully will be getting replaced for next year!). You get 250 prints (500 if you do double-sided) every quarter and the prints do not roll over. 250 is usually more than enough, as I never used more than ~125 per quarter.

Also, as an RCA, I help with any computer issues you may have. I’ve spent hours working with individuals that have nasty viruses or booting issues. Utilize me, so I won’t just be sitting there waiting for something to happen :P. You get these services free as a resident in student housing. It’s just an extra perk, 'cause many places like to charge you by the hour for fixing your computer, while this is completely free of charge. :)

So…will the dorm life be similar to the freshmen dorm life that the majority of us did not experience? Also, by the look of the pictures, the dorms look hellllla small. I can’t handle that man, I need my space & privacy. I’m willing to sacrifice some personal space for some social benefits, but it better be damn good. Anyways, if I don’t end up dorming (or attending UCD at all), I guess I’ll look for some potential roommates?

And why not advertise in a place where the students come from the same boat, cc?

20 year old asian male that’s not an awkward fob.

from the bay area

420 friendly and a beer pong CRUSADER. hella clutch

has a **** load of goodies to contribute to an apartment/house. ex: tv, couches, and whatever that’s needed

clean

yeah, i sound cocky here, but whatever. message me if you’re interested…hahaha i can’t believe i’m doing this

I feel like I’m introducing myself to a dating service…

idky u guys r complaining about castilian so much, it’s a dorm not a hotel hehe. i live here now after being in tercero last year. they definitely are not as social as the regular dorms, everyone keeps to themselves/their roommates.

i’m gonna advertise here too:

you could share a 1br apartment with a nice quiet girl (me) next year at Glacier Point apartments! Rent would be $450/month (maybe lower) with a Washer/dryer in unit!! along with fridge/microwave/dishwasher/stove/etc.

pix and more information available, just ask!

//end shameless shameless plug

I agree the pics for the dorms look like a bad motel but I think i’m going to live in the dorms so I can meet new people. How far away are the dorms from campus?? And does anyone know if you can bring your car to the dorms?

15 mins walk but bike is would be quicker.

Cuarto I’ve heard is good to have a balance and its off campus.
