hey guys! i've been lurking on these boards for quite a while now and have just decided to make an account, haha.

i'm going to be heading to UC Davis this fall and i'm super excited! i was just wondering if anyone could give me some pros/cons for both living on-campus (at castillian hall) or off-campus (at one of the SSA apartments) as a transfer. i'm definitely interested in meeting people and would LOVE to live in the residence halls if they were nicer =/. basically right now i've pretty much decided on living at the SSA apartments just because i'd have more privacy and they look much nicer than castillian hall. kitchen and laundry is a HUGE plus also. anyways, i guess my main concern is being able to meet new people and not be completely anti social. i know, i know being social is what you make of it. i hope some of you guys can give me some insight on this!

The pros and cons are straight forward. Living on campus can be more convenient, while living off can be cheaper (aside from the on campus apartments which are hard to get into). You don’t have to live with other people to be social either.

I recommend spending some time exploring the housing options in person. It’s what I’ll be doing at the end of May.

ok, cool. yeah that’s what i pretty much figured anyways. thanks! i’m going to decision day this friday so i’ll be looking into housing then.

anybody else going?

I’m in the same exact position as you. Castillian Hall doesn’t look appealing at all, and I’d love to live in an apartment, perhaps sharing with 2 or 3 others. I’ll be going to Davis Decision day, so hopefully it’ll be better in person.

I’m also going to Transfer Day on May 7th.
By the way, if you are under 20 years of age you may have a chance of getting into the dorms (you’d have to live with freshmen…), instead of being relegated to Castilian, on-campus apartments, or off-campus.

I know this is an old thread…it’s been over a year since you guys posted…but I’m going to be a transfer next fall.
Now that you guys have been there for a while, what do you say the best housing option is for transfers?

-And will it be difficult for transfers to acclimate socially their first month or so?
[not knowing anyone at Davis]

I’m in the transfer dorms this year. I love it. Castillian is shut down and you’d live in Webster.
The transfers are REALLY social and I came here not knowing anyone, either but now I know a ton of people.
Even if you don’t live on campus there will be a ton of transfer/social events to get to know people. Don’t worry.
Personally, I always wanted the dorm experience and it is amazing.
