I'm only a freshman high school right now but I'm already setting my goals and choosing the schools I want to aim for.
From everything I've heard, Cal and Davis sound like exactly what I am looking for in a school. I'm pretty set on moving from LA county to NorCal for college.

I'm planning on an English or History major, perhaps double.
I really want a university with outstanding school spirit, I am a huge football/basketball girl. I want a laid back school but with plenty of nightlife.

For English, UC Berkeley beats UC Davis by a mile. School spirit is also something Berkeley has plenty of (I was actually surprised at that). UC Davis might be more laid back but Berkeley kinda is too. Nightlife is kinda eh at both. I would probably go with UC Berkeley.

keep your options open kid, you're a freshman, stop and smell the flowers, don't start getting all goal oriented till the end of your sophmore year, it'll save you lots of worries.

aside from the academic stuff, Davis is a real college town, whereas berkeley is in an urban area, but close to SF. Davis is better if you like to go skiing/snowboarding on the weekend.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the competitive nature of Berkeley. But you shouldn't take my word for it. It's just that I've heard so many times that Berkeley is very competitive. And at times, UCB was even described as cut-throat. Iono, I'm just telling you what I've heard. I have a cousin that's a sophomore there right now and from what I can see, I have an impression that it's a "work hard then play hard" type of environment.
Another cousin of mine said that the only thing to do at UCDavis is cow tipping. That's prolly a really mean generalization, but once again, i'm just telling you what I've heard...

I am in the OP's same position but a senior accepted at both + Regents Scholarship for each. Which would be better for Pre-med? Would my GPA suffer too harshly at UC Berkeley, whereas I could have higher GPA at UC Davis? Any opinions please ...?

English majors are not competitive in the least bit because the majority of the grades in english courses come from writing essays, which are completely subjective.

Honestly, the competition here is fierce but I find it manageable. In the long run I figure the work ethic i'm developing here is gonna make me a better person.

One of the worst grades I got in undergrad was in a course that was based on written essays. If you can't figure out what the person grading wants, it can be VERY hard.
