I like how Davis is better than Boston, Rice, Brown, and UCSD is better than UCLA....
I consider this the ranking that Berkeley people use to consider themselves the top 5, even though they're not even top 20 on US News.

I also like the fact that Paris 06 is better than Irvine. LMAO.

When folks are talking about Berkeley as being a top university, they are usually including grad school. Cal is considered, by the international academic community, to be one of the top universities in the world. The rankings vary a bit year to year, but Cal has had more of it's grad programs ranked in the top ten than any other university.

You must always consider the field of study. A graduate degree in engineering from UCB would be considered more impressive than one from Harvard, for instance.

anothercollegemom, this list does include grad school because ucsf is in it.

Her post reflects that she knew that, othersiderock.

UCSD is ranked that high because it's becoming one of the top science schools in the nation.

why are these other ranking so odd...
to me...us news rankings seem more believable

they just rank based on different criteria dude. go and read about it to learn how they choose.

I agree with momotudy, some of these rankings are quite odd. If they come out with a ranking of schools closest to the name "UC Bavis" then UC Davis would be #1.

But most of the rankings do a have a system. Washington Monthly's rankings may appear odd because it looks for very specific indicators which are not used by US News. It is not necessarily less valid. It is just looking at limited, specific indicators and WM is quite clear about what is it ranking.
