i was wondering if UCD was so overwhelmingly big that it is hard to make friends, or if it was the opposite, since it is so big it is not hard to make friends fast?

Yes, UCD is huge. However dorms are all in clusters - the three being Cuarto, Tercero, and Segundo. There are a lot of students within each set of dorms so you'll have an easy time to make friends. Also, UCD is a college town so many students stay on campus during the weekends. You can definitely find friends! It's by far the most friendly, closely-knit, and relaxed campus (this is an opinion, don't kill me).

well if worst comes to worst and i don't make any friends for the first several months, i'll....

1) Get a nice big posterboard and paint in large black letters, "In dire need of friends. Call me!: ###-####"

2) Set up camp in the middle of a bike circle with the board hung around my neck.

you will make friends, go to the ARC with someone from your dorm...they will be new too and they will be looking for friends. Look for someone in your classes to study with...study groups are a good way to prepare for exams while developing a social net.
