UCD v. UCI

I was accepted to UCD and am still waiting for UCI on Aerospace Engineering. I absolutely love the UCI campus and environment but I know that UCD has a better engineering program. Ive heard that UCI and UCD are pretty much on the same level, however ive also heard the exact opposite. Can anyone help me? UCI (great campus/environment/decent program) or UCD (cow tipping for fun/better program)?

ANY help would be great! Thanks!

there's definitely not a whole lot of cow-tipping going on, lol. From what it sounds like, you're not too familiar with Davis. I would recommend you come out during the welcome week to check out the campus and decide what you think. Most people who come and actually check Davis out tend to fall in love with it.

but cow tipping sounds fun!

^^^^^agreed

it wouldn't be fun if the cow got angry at you

UCD has a great environment if you are the kind of person who can make your own entertainment and will take advantage of the many many on campus opportunities. The campus is lovely the people are smart and interesting the town of Davis is a true college town.

Not so much in the way of night life but up hwy 5 in Sacramento you can find what you may need. This is the sort of place that requires a visit if you are unsure.

when u go cow tipping, it's at nite. when they're asleep cos they stand up sleeping. :]

i've actually visited because my brother is getting his PhD there right now. we both agree that the beach sort of UCI environment is completely different from that of Davis. I think its hard to read what a campus is truly like unless you live there. What bothers me most is the opportunities I will have coming out of each of these schools. Does this UCI vs. UCD thing really matter if I do well in school? When companies are looking for internship candidates will it really matter if i went to UCI or UCD?

i don't know where people get this cow-tipping idea from. i've lived in davis for 8 years and haven't seen more than 3 cows here, and all of them are on campus and part of experiments or something.

and i don't think it really makes a difference to companies if you go to ucd or uci. but davis has a lot of school spirit and it's such a cute college town. and when you live in davis, no one really wants to go to uci, or so it seems. it's more of a back-up.

ucd and uci are incomparable in terms of engineering. if you want engineering you want ucd.

what about the computer science and engineering major? i know this is in the davis forum, so people may tend to be biased, so if possible, i would like an unbiased opinion, thanks. :)

Post #11 above applies to all engineering, including computer science and engineering.

And to answer mrforks question above, no, generally a company is not going to differentiate between someone who has a degree from UCI vs. someone who has a degree from UCD.

They are going to care a lot more about what's on your resume, ie - what kind of relevant work experience you have, what kind of internships you did, who your references are, how well you are able to express your goals, what kind of worker you are. They probably aren't going to care what college you went to unless there's like a huge difference between two candidates. You know, something on the order of Cal State LA vs. Cal Tech. Not UCI vs. UCD.

Biggest difference would definitely be the school spirit. There has got to be tons more at Davis (Aggie Pack!!!). Watching a sports game with a supportive crowd is so much more fun... did I mention how many free things you can possibly get from watching a basketball or football game? This year I got...
1x Scoop of Coldstone Ice-cream caught at a football game
1x Burger caught at a football game
5x Gold/Yellow Beads
2x Complimentary Meal at Fuzio's Pasta
3x Free Grad Burger coupon
1x Free Scoop of B&J Ice cream coupon
1x Yogurt Shack coupon
1x Free burger, fries and drink @ Redrum burger coupon
and best of all...
..4x Pairs of Aggie Tube Socks =D .. some people have been trying to get tube socks for their entire duration of their collegiate years.. but I'm still a first year and I've caught four! =)

I won some more stuff, but that's all I can remember from the top of my head... you can see how I show my school spirit.. by watching the games and getting free stuff =)

Wow that's awesome marzxbarz! I can't wait for the free stuff...and the games of course!

Football.....:)

yeah so although companies may not look at the difference between UCD and UCI it makes sense that UCD (ranked almost 20 spots ahead of UCI in engineering) would have more opportunities or more quality opportunities than Irvine...right?
