@tehlofflies Yeah, hopefully only 300-400 people will actually mail in stuff… Are you applying too?

I’m applying to UCDavis YSP. I want to get in so badly that it’s almost inconceivable. Haha! Good luck to all other applicants!

@collegeluva101 Me too!!! Ahhhh I would literally do anything to get in…

@GenCross, Exactly! I feel like this program fits all of my interests perfectly and being able to attend would just be…magnificent.

Just wondering, I’m thinking of applying this year. Exactly how selective is this program. I’m from Canada and I am at the top of my grade, I take a full course load (which includes the sciences), and I have good extra-curriculars but nothing that that special. Thanks.

Also, for the written work you have to submit, does it have to be sci-related, like can it be english paper or something?

Thanks again!

Mine was an english/history paper, I guess it’s whatever paper you think will show your character. This is a Science program, it’s highly selective (5% or less acceptance). Most successful applicants have something pretty significant in Science that show that they have the motivation to become the future scientist.
If you are not interested in science, there are other programs that don’t involve science.

Mine was also an english paper. I don’t have any significant experience in science but I hope I managed to show my desire to be accepted in the 150 words they allowed.

Thanks! Just wondering, do you guys know any other summer programs that are still pretty good but not as selective (as a backup?)

@bbcarol, if you’re going to SSTP, then why are you applying to YSP? Just wondering…

@dongakadan, the Summer@Brown programs are not selective and may not look as good on a college application, but if you want to maybe earn credits or do something besides go to the beach all summer, they’re a pretty good option

the financial aid is pretty good too, if you need it.

I’m still not sure what paper to submit! I haven’t written many essays in English class this year and don’t really have any good papers from other classes… What to do?! :|

And thanks energize for your info! I think I still prefer YSP though so I really hope I get in!

Hey guys,

I was just wondering, is it okay if my other teacher is also a science teacher?

@dongakadan, that is probably even best, seeing as this is a science research program

@ivoryrainbow… being a little macbethy here aren’t we?..

@GenCross: Really. Care to explain how I was being “macbethy”?

@ivoryrainbow no.

@GenCross lol :)

@GenCross: Oh I see. You’re too good for all of us. I bow down before you, oh great master! (In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic. Thanks for the delightful private message, by the way. It explained your comment wonderfully.)

Wellll, I was just asking for advice. If you don’t have anything helpful to add, I suggest you don’t say anything at all. I don’t appreciate being mocked when I’m already feeling overwhelmed by a ton of other stuff in life, and I’m sure you don’t either.

yay submitted my online app!
