I just wanted to get some stats together of those who have applied to UCF and received feedback on admission to the honors college or a scholarship (If you got accepted or rejected). I figured it might be helpful for people applying in the future as well as interesting for us. Nothing I love more than spending hours analyzing data…

Comments: Of my friends applied for Burnett recently, and most of them were deferred even though we all have similar stats. I believe it may be that there were a lot more applicants than expected and they don’t have enough spots. Some of my friends were denied a scholarship because of a lack of funds. So for those who’ve applied recently and are still waiting a decision, if your stats are pretty borderline you may have to wait for spots to open up.
Son was deferred until April. He has above average, but not top stats. He was awarded the Knights Achievement Award of $11,000/yr for OOS kids - very generous and makes UCF same price as our in-state SUNY.
He really likes UCF, especially for his major of aerospace engineering but without Burnett he would not attend.
As per their request, he’s been sending in supplemental materials (LORs, essays, creative work, mid-year grades) but they are looking for improved test scores - which they won’t get…he’s done testing.
@prettygms When did you get notified of the scholarship and how? I had extremely similar stats to you (5.113 WGPA, 1430 SAT, ranked 3/416) and applied around the same day you did, yet they refuse to offer me any scholarships. I called the scholarship coordinator and was told they are almost out of funding, but people seem to still be getting them. I’m surprised they only gave you $2500 too, as I’ve seen kids with worse stats getting the provost. I suppose the difference could be that I applied for Summer 2017 just so that I could get started immediately, but I’m not sure. What do you think?
@doctorraisin It is $2500 a year, the Pegasus Silver award. And I received the scholarship before I applied to Burnett. I applied to UCF in September, was notified of a scholarship in November. And yeah, at this point many of my friends who applied later aren’t being offered anything. I noticed some of my friends with lower stats getting higher scholarships, so I asked if I qualified for something higher, but the trouble to go through a Scholarship Appeal at this time seems pointless to me since they’re out of money.
And the fact that you applied for Summer 2017 could make a difference because most higher stat students go for the fall semester. It could be that they’re saving money for fall students over summer ones.
Are you a Florida Resident? Because I read various articles saying that the Florida Senate is trying to pass a bill to increase Bright Futures to cover 100% of tuition, and also cover summer terms. Now, I don’t know if that would take place soon enough for a summer semester, but it seems to be very favorable by the governor and the House, so you’d at least have that cover you for the fall semester.

Is UCF your first choice? It became my first choice after touring and deeply analyzing.
Other schools you applied for and your acceptance: Auburn University: accepted, UF: accepted, GA Southern: accepted, Clemson: accepted, Kennesaw State: accepted, Georgia Tech: denied (bummer haha).
Major/Field of Study: Mechanical Engineering
Comments:
I’m not too sure if this helped me but I attend GSMST, the best high school in Georgia and ranked 27th in the country (was third). My ranking is only 50% because the small 190 senior class all have “high” GPAs, and our top of the class is a very wide gap. About the top 30% all have 3.9-4.0s. Also, I got into the Burnett Honors College and am going to dorm in Tower 3.
@GSMSTer S (from Virginia) also has been accepted to UCF-Burnett and will live in Tower 3. He’s also Mechanical Engineering, so I’m sure you’ll eventually run into each other. He’s been accepted to the University of Florida and Texas A&M engineering schools, and is waiting to hear back from Virginia Tech. (He was accepted into NC State, but only into the general studies program.)
Honestly, he’s 95% committed to UCF at this point. It would take a huge scholarship from U of F and early acceptance from Va. Tech to put those back in play. (S was awarded the UCF $44,000 scholarship for OOS students.) I think what tipped it for S was the UCF tour, the talk with UCF’s Luke van Blaricom (scholarship director), and the UCF Cybersecurity Camp he attended last July.
@SouthFloridaMom9 Thanks for your kind note. S is excited and honored to be accepted at U of F. I heard it was super-competitive this year (as it seems to be also at UCF and FSU). If S applies to U of F honors and gets in, and/or gets a scholarship, then he may be inclined to consider. There’s also the Va. Tech wild card, although as a Northern Virginia student, I’m not sure of his chances of getting into the VT engineering school (where nearly half the students are OOS). He’ll probably have his final decision made by the end of the month, or mid-March at the latest.
Do you have any DS at U of F or UCF, or who have applied to either?
Hey guys! Thanks for doing it!! I decided I would also fill it out for more information to be out there

Major/Field of Study: Biomedical Sciences w/a chemistry minor

Has anyone received the BHC materials in the mail? I think they were supposed to arrive in the mail around this time. S already is signed up for Honors Orientation June 7-9.
@VABogart I was able to see on myHonors (under Freshman application, reservation status) that they just shipped them out yesterday, on the 15th. So I’d expect you to receive it in the mail soon!
@UCFgal Also – the BHC letter says that Orientation is June 11-12, but the website says June 8-9. I think the website is right. Looks like we’ll have to contact UCF to see which is which.
@VABogart I haven’t received mine yet, and I actually live about 20 minutes from UCF. So I definitely wouldn’t worry that you haven’t yet received yours.
Oh, thanks for letting me know! I hadn’t even noticed the discrepancy with the dates. Contacting UCF would probably be the safe thing to do, although I would agree that the website is most likely right.
