My son is in the Burnett Honors College. Positives are the early registration and being able to register for a yr at a time. There are other opportunities unique to the honors college but he has not taken advantage of them yet. He has become involved in other activities on campus. As others suggest on here, put your housing deposit in as soon as possible for top housing choice (I think it was Dec 1st last year but check to make sure it is still the same.) He put his deposit down months before he committed. S21 loves UCF and had an awesome first year.
Thanks, @1intwo2go! Is your son in the Honors LLC? Is applying for housing equivalent to officially committing to UCF, or can you apply for housing before making a final college decision (and later withdraw your housing application if you decide to attend elsewhere)?
He was in Tower 3 last year and loved it. Unfortunately only NMF are guaranteed 4 years. He was lucky a got a lotto spot and is still on campus this yr but will probably move off next yr.
Yes UCF allowed him to deposit housing before he committed. A few other schools allow it as well. I never heard of it before but has now become a question we ask on S23 tours. He was pretty sure he was going to commit to UCF and wanted Towers so we put the deposit down on day 1 that it opened. It is a slight gamble but one that I would take again and will do so for S23, if he is in the same situation.
My son was just accepted for Fall 23. On the future knight portal, there is a required âreply to offer of admissionâ link. Itâs early and weâre waiting to hear from his other schools before making any decisions⊠Iâm wondering if itâs necessary to submit âaccept offerâ in order to be considered for a merit award?
Thanks for any insight!!
We also applied in August - may I ask, before acceptance did the portal show any status of âunder reviewâ or âawaiting decisionâ? Ours just shows all green checkmarks for required items, but I wasnât sure if any other steps were needed. Thanks in advance for your help and congrats to your son!!
On the day of the acceptance (maybe 5 hours prior), the portal prompted us to complete step 2 of the residency proof. Around that time, he also received an email to open a âmyUCFâ account. Another email arrived a few hours later, saying his application status had changed, and to check the application portal (future knights). The decision link appeared on the portal, right above the check marks you are referring to.
As far as time frame, he applied/ sent all documents about 3 weeks prior to the acceptance. Iâm sure youâll hear soon; best wishes!!
To better answer your question, his showed the same as you are describing right up until the decision. (Just the green check marks).
Thank you SO much for the info! Iâm always afraid we left out a step, itâs our first time through the process! Now I know what to look for
Hi. Same with my son. He was just accepted to Summer 2023. We only applied for summer, bc we heard that it is best for freshman to get there for Summer B, familiarize with campus and make some friends with only one course to take.
Only issue we are having is we got the acceptance (email to check status update), we accepted and then I went straight to the housing section. Got an error message saying that it was too soon after acceptance to sign up for housing. yes, I am jumping the gun, but does anyone know how long after acceptance you can apply for housing? Also, weâve only been in state one year, so son does not know anyone yet going to UCF. Do they pull suitemates for them if they donât come with their own?
Last question: Looking at both Towers and Neptune. Is it true that while towers are great, there arenât as many opportunities to meet kids bc not as many freshman? thank you.
Not sure about Summer but Fall housing usually opens in Dec.
No you do not need to accept to see Merit.
Thank you!
Most students on campus are freshmen. You may have a few Merit Finalists that stay all 4 years but most likely even in Towers they will be surrounded by other freshmen. When you get confirmed for housing the portal opens and you can connect with other freshmen. S21 became very friendly with 2 out of his 3 Towers roommates, all were freshmen. Since UCF doesnât really have traditional dorms with hall baths the difference is negligible.
I see you have some great insight. All docs have been uploaded and submitted and received by 9.12 this month. We emailed asking how long it takes and was emailed itâs in review and it could be a few weeks. What have you seen in terms of hearing back. We applied summer as well. 27 act 3.2 gpa. Just curiousâŠitâs one of our long shot schools, but we put the app in as we toured and he LOVED the school this summer. thanks for insight. We have over 200 hours community service, Bright Futures Scholarship, AP and honors classes, band, rotc and student athlete.
Welcome to all the new Knights! And a couple of suggestions on dorms.
First of all, understand that there are two types of dorm contracts â Annual contract and Academic contract.
Annual is all year â Fall, Spring, and Summer â and you pay for all 3 whether you are there or not. Annual contracts are at Towers and Northview. I do not know how housing is done at other campuses â this pertains to Main Campus.
All other dorms (I think; check with Housing to be sure) are Academic contract â Fall and Spring only.
With Academic contracts, you do NOT pick your dorm. You get a selection date based on the date of acceptance of your dorm application â not your acceptance to UCF. You canât apply for dorms until you receive your UCF acceptance.
When your selection date comes, you are given a choice of which dorm complex. You pick the complex, Housing assigns your actual room.
With Annual Contracts, you select your complex, building, and actual room from what is available.
SoâŠif you are interested in an ACADEMIC Contract, you should apply for Housing as early as possible.
There is also a very good roommate selection system available, so use it.
And finally, the roommate with the earliest Housing acceptance date should be âin chargeâ because their early acceptance date will pull everyone else in their group in. All roommates benefit from that early date, IF that student is in charge of selection.
Added: FWIW, My D was in Tower 4 and LOVED it. Super convenient location with lots of important stuff nearby.
I donât know about admissions. My daughter graduated HS in 2020 and things have changed over the last 3 years.
Admissions canât really give you much of an idea until the actual decision is made.
Do NOT push them (âI need a decision NOW.â). Iâve seen several people try that over the years and have never seen anything but âNO.â
Does anyone know if there are a limited number of OOS NMF full ride scholarships offered? We just learned about UCF (I guess weâve been living under a rock) and my D will be applying as soon as essays are completed.
Iâve heard 40 as a number before
I just got off the phone with the UCF Admissions, and the lady told me that they are no longer deferring requested fall admissions to summer B. She said that students have to decide whether they want to attend summer or fall session and apply to one or the other. I asked to change my sonâs application and was told I would need to submit a new application.
We used the Common app and I am almost certain that there was no question on the application asking whether you wanted summer or fall semester. I wish these schools would be more transparent with the process since you only get one shot at it.
Thanks for the heads up, and yes, that is a BIG change from the way theyâve done it in the past.
Itâs also different from what someone just reported yesterday on another forum â her daughter applied for Fall, and she got accepted for Summer. However, I think some of that is dependent on the major the student is seeking.
Info from Admissions is usually very accurate, but I think I would call them back and ask again. You might also ask if there is another major where he would be more likely to get accepted. Changing majors later is easy and very common.
