UCF apartments / areas / safety

I will be transferring there in the fall from a CC. I'm a guy will be 21 in the October.l I've been looking at a few areas and I have a friend that currently goes to UCF and he lives in Walden Chase. I read about Pegasus Pointe and Pegasus Landing and heard it's pretty sketchy with the robberies and such . My friend told me to look at Tivoli or the Towers. I was wanting to get a roommate and I have a max of about 500-600 for rent. I also considered a dorm. Anyone have any experience of the area such as nice reasonable areas to live. I know crime is everywhere. I just read a lot a bout house break ins at Pegasus Pointe and Landing and I have a expensive laptop I can't afford to lose. I can understand if someone wanted to break into a car but I have Nothing in there and a tape deck so all they would do is bust my window and take a repair manual, about $4 in change, and the satisfaction of breaking a window. Also if anyone has pics of interior of a usual apartment down there such as an UCF dorm or towers. I would like to know I looked at some on the sites and all they show is a layout and the office interior on the apartment websites. I would like a little bit of what they look like. Anyone know any good areas. My friend just said when I come down there stay away from any housing with the word Pegasus. Also I'm a nerd, I party but not 24/7, I'm really quiet. I have lived in an apartment before and understand that there are rude people who blast their music and others who find it a good time to do jumping jacks in the room above me at 5 am. Also I would like to know if you have had a good experience or bad with where area you live around UCF.

All I can really comment on is to take Towers out of your equation. iirc they are 700 a month

What up Crg246 i will also be transferring in the fall from a CC, therefore i don’t have much to contribute to your dilemma. I just got accepted two days ago, so i have no idea what to do about housing, when i log into myUcf to apply for housing the only option i have available to me is Rosen College of Hospitality apartments (28 miles from campus, ***?), does this happen to you also?..I’ve read the eligibility criteria in the housing website, and it basically says that since we are transfer students this our only option and the other dorms we are able to go on a standby list. So I’ve signed up for the standby list. Are you in the same predicament?

There are a lot of Apartments on Alafaya Trail and going down McCulloch Road in Oviedo. I would check out the Edge. Pegasus Landing isn’t too bad. I pay $565 a month for a 3 Bedroom / 3 Bath Apartment and it includes: Electricity to a Cap, Water, Cable, Hi-Speed Internet and Trash Pickup. Now, one of the main reasons I enjoy Pegasus Landing is that they have a Shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off on Campus near the Student Union. Markospena, what I could recommend is if you do get the Rosen College Apartments is to walk over to the Rosen College and take the Shuttle and let it drop you off on the Main Campus. Depending on how well you make your Class Schedule, you could save a lot of money on Toll Roads and Gas. Unfortunately when I made my Schedule for the Fall, I will be driving down to the Rosen College at least once a week and take the Shuttle for the other days. It’s not too bad.

Frank thanks for the reply, i will like to make the Rosen College my last choice because of the distance, I have a V8 gasgusler. Do i really have no other choice? Are transfer student granted any access to on-campus dorms in the fall? or I’m i too late for that?
Thanks Frank

This is what I found out:

"Priority for housing on the Orlando Main Campus is given to first-year students. If space is available, then transfer and graduate students will be offered housing. Transfer or graduate students may apply to live at the Rosen College Student Apartments located at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management (45 minutes from the Orlando Main Campus). There are many off-campus student housing options available including affiliated housing at Pegasus Landing and Pegasus Pointe apartments. Other off-campus resources can be found at [Housing and Residence Life | Off Campus](http://www.housing.ucf.edu/offcampus) "

Umm, I would definitely would check Apartments near Main Campus, especially if you want to get involved on Campus and all. Rosen College does offer a Shuttle http://parking.ucf.edu/pdfs/Rosen09.schedule.pdf</a> that stops at 7:30 PM with Rosen College, so if you are taking Classes or if you have Classes that end past 7:30, than living down there might not be worth it. Since I live here on Pegasus Landing, the Shuttle finishes at 10:30 PM, which is perfect since I take my Exams mostly at night time. Now, I will be going to the Rosen College in the Fall where most of my classes will be. I will have to drive one day a week and could take the Shuttle the other day. Since you have a “gas guzzler”, I would definitely consider (a) taking the Shuttle depending on your Class Schedule you plan out, (b) Take a look at different Apartments near Campus. Weigh out the Advantages and Disadvantages in each. And depending on what Route you take from Rosen to the Main Campus, you could end spending a LOT of time in Traffic. There was one time I didn’t want to take the Toll Roads and took Colonial (SR50) and it took me about an hour and 15 minutes. I’m sure whatever way you decide, you will be fine. Just make sure to plan and weigh everything out.

Thank you so much Frank. I appreciate the research. I looked into Pegasus Pointe & Pegasus Landing they look great but have terrible reviews, if you get a chance let me know in a few words what do think about Pegasus landing. Thanks

I think Pegasus Landing is a pretty good place to Live. You have Publix across the street in Oviedo and cross from that is a Walmart Neighborhood Market. I believe the CVS right next to us is opened 24 hours a Day. The one thing I wish Pegasus Landing would have is more events for the Residents, but with Students Schedules and all, it’s kind of hard. They do have them like once every few months and offer sometimes Prizes and Free Food. I went to one a few nights ago and won an iPod Shuffle. I like that they have a Shuttle that picks you up and takes you directly on Campus to the Student Union area. It saves on Gas, as well as Parking Fees and they go until 10 or 10:30 at night, which most classes I would assume are done by that time. I saw the reviews before I joined and was kind of questionable myself. What I would recommend doing is taking a Tour, see what things are like, ask other Residents their opinions and so forth. Of course, you will probably get a few that don’t like it and will say anything to discourage someone. So, out of a 10, I would rate it a 7.5.

You are the best thanks, tour sounds like a good idea

I try to be good :)

My daughter lived on campus her first year and this Fall (her sophmore year) she is moving off-campus to Northgate Lakes. That’s an option, too, and VERY close to campus.

I used apartment tutor to compare the local UCF apartments when I was deciding where to live. It’s really easy to maneuver and gives you all the information that you need like prices and amenities. They also provide links to the apartments sites too.

Boardwalk is nice as well, and right around the corner from the main campus. My aunt pays like 500 or so for a four/four.
