Hello, I was recently deferred by UCF, I have a 1110 SAT and 4.3 weighted GPA. I’m really nervous. Any advice?
This is my first choice school and it would be a dream come true to get in.
First things first, call the office of admissions directly! They open around 9 and I recommend calling as soon as they open. I said, “Hi, my application status shows I’ve been deferred and I was hoping you could tell me why?” They will probably tell you it just means they need more time to make a decision and point out what is lacking in your application (in your case I think it might be your test score). They will then most likely offer to transfer you over to one of the guidance counselors/admission officers, if they don’t then just ask Say the same thing to the guidance counselor and see what feedback they give you. Also, make sure when you call that they actually look at your application- you will know they are looking at it when they ask for your full name and date of birth. Good luck!
Also, a few questions- Is that GPA your recalculated or just your high school one? It would be help in determining your standing if you know your recalculated. Are you in the top 10% of your class? Finally, have you tried taking the ACT?
That GPA isn’t my recalculated, my recalculated is a 4.5, i’m not in the top 10 and i have not tried taking the act.
I am in the top 16%
4.5 recalculated is really good! So yes definitely call the office of admissions tomorrow at 9 am and get more information on your deferment and see what they say. My friend and I were both deferred then accepted on the same day we called.
I asked about the ACT because you might do better on it than the SAT, it depends on what your strengths are. There is still time to sign up for the December ACT (with a late fee) but I would recommend calling the office of admissions first and waiting 2 days to see if there is any change in your application status before registering for the ACT. Actually, if you’re a Florida resident you might want to consider retaking it either way so you can receive the Bright Futures scholarship.
Thank you very much, I hope all goes well. I will be calling them tomorrow at 9 am. Thank you again
And yeah I will take the act to see if I can get bright futures.
No problem, good luck and let us know how the call goes!
Hello, I called them and they basically said it was my sat score. So I just checked my portal and now it states " Your application has undergone an initial review and is with the Admissions Committee for further evaluation.". It does not say deferred anymore. Did this happen to you?
I’m not 100% sure but that probably showed up for me as well, I didn’t really look that close. If you don’t get a decision tonight or tomorrow I would recommend signing up to take the ACT and sending that score to them (you should take it either way though bc it might help you with bright futures )
Yes, I am planning on taking the ACT. As of right now I have not gotten a decision, but they are closed on satudays I believe, so maybe sometime next week? I’m hoping for the best
@HelloR2 Hey! Same thing here. I got deferred as well. I am calling the school first thing when I get home from school on Monday (11/18). Though I am sure my GPA and SAT score are the reason for the deferral.
My GPA is a 3.08 (unweighted), but I am not sure of my recalculated, I think it’s a 2.73 (Not nearly competitive enough for a school like UCF).
My SAT score was an 1140 (again, not nearly competitive enough for a school like UCF).
My status and my two friends who also got deferred were updated to that as well, so I think it was a global deferral update.
I am planning to take the ACT in December not only for UCF but also for bright futures, and I am also planning on sending UCF my semester grades when they become available so they can see the progress I’ve made my senior year.
UCF is my dream school, my top-choice, but to be quite frank I am surprised I wasn’t just rejected immediately, considering my sub-par scores compared to everyone else applying.
Hey guys, I don’t have an update yet. Question for malayk, did your just update around 6:45 ish. Or should I just keep checking ?
Just keep checking. I’m not sure if you’ll get a decision as soon as I did just because our situations are different. Good luck and make sure to register and study for the ACT!
Hey I emailed them and got the same answer you got when you emailed them. I just got off the phone and they said they’re reviewing my application with my newer scores.
have have you gotten a decision yet?
