UCF Honors vs. UF and studying abroad

It's nearing the end of March and I'm still stuck wondering which college would be better for me. My parents personally like UF more and feel that it would be the better choice because they believe it is "academically superior" to UCF, but I feel that I would get the best experience overall in UCF due to its location (and therefore, opportunities to get some internships and whatnot going on).

So I'm trying to decide if I should apply to UCF Honors or just UF in general. I'm planning to major in graphic design/digital media, though if I can handle it (or if it's still a good idea) I plan on also majoring in business administration...or something along the lines of that. Would majoring in either of these areas be better at one Uni than the other? Would majoring in graphics for one university look better than the other, when it comes to the "real" world when I'm looking for a job?

Oh. And I also express zero interest in sports. Which means I don't like football. Will that be a problem at UF or UCF? I'm more of a gamer, and I'm into cartoons and animation, so...I don't know if that counts for anything.

Aside from that, would taking up UCF Honors be better than UF non-honors? I love smaller classes in general (I come from a school with only around 600 people total) but people seem to say that UF is better academically--so what (in your opinion) is the better option here?

In addition to that, I'd also like to ask how both universities are with their study abroad programs. I am very interested in studying in Asia, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with their programs.

Thank you in advance!

I’m basically in the same boat as you. I know that a lot of people say at UF you’re just a number because there are so many students in one class most of the time. At UCF Honors it is said on the sheet that came with the application that Honors courses are 20 people max with 15 people in composition and writing. On the other things I am not too sure, since I am trying to decide too. Good luck =)

Sorry to hear you’re on the same boat! It’s such a tough situation we’re in-I hope it works out with you!

I got the sheet about UCF honors too and re-read it today, so that’s…all I know about the Honors college itself. I’d ask the college about their program and stuff but I know I’d get a pretty biased answer from there, so I decided against it. Thanks for replying though!

This was posted a while ago, but what did you end up choosing? Because I’m in the boat of choosing between UF and UCF (non-honors) for double majors in advertising and emerging media with a specialization in graphic design (that’s what it’s called at UCF) and advertising and graphic design (UF). I don’t know which to choose.

lol sorry brah, the OP has two posts and they were both in this thread in march 2010. I doubt he’ll ever come to this website again. I don’t know much about UF’s graphic design program, but I know that UCF has a TON of internships related to simulations and virtual reality. And well, I’m assuming simulations and virtual reality need artists, right? In general, Orlando is a MUCH better technology market than gainesville. Besides that I’d just choose based on which campus/school you like better.
