Hi My son is starting summer 2010. We just applied for fall housing and got confirmed last week Feb 10. Does anybody know if this too late to get his first/only choice of Lake Claire? We need to decide to wait and see or go off campus. Thanks for your help

I wouldnt stress too much. He may not get Lake Claire, but I’m almost sure he can still get housing. I applied around roughly the same time if not a tad later last year and still got my first choice of a single in Apollo. He still may get his first choice though, I’m not sure which exactly is the most popular first choice among freshmen. Why exactly is that his only choice? Towers also offers apartment style dorms like Lake Claire. Also, off campus apartments are a 1 year lease just like Towers. Lake Claire and every other dorm on campus is only an academic lease, meaning just fall and spring semester, no summer or christmas breaks. The only downside is that Towers is more expensive than its off camus counterparts by about $1000 overall on average. The benefit though is that theres nothing like the convenience of on campus housing. If he doesnt get Lake Claire, which I think he has a chance, I suggest applying for a single room in Apollo, or considering the double rooms in Apollo, Libra or Nike/Hercules (which are pretty new). The reason being that once you go off campus, you arent allowed to live back on campus. Once you are past freshmen year, you can only live in either Towers, which is just apartments, or Nike/Hercules which has double rooms for freshmen and apartments for upperclassmen. Nike/Hercules is almost exactly like Lake Claire but newer, slightly bigger, and nicer. I think my answer might’ve gotten a little too long but I just wanted to make sure I covered all the bases lol …

marlins 97 thanks for your reply. He does not want to t live in a double. The towers seem very expensive. We were thinking about having him live on campus for the summer in a double so that he can make some friends, and then moving to Pegasus Landing in the fall. Do you think he would feel too removed if we did this? WE want him to have a true college experience, but he is very private and laid back. He is social and has plenty of friends but he worries about getting a roommate that is too loud and then is tied in to his lease. I know he would enjoy his college life more if he had his own space. By the time e will get his assignment, it is too late to cancel with out a huge penalty. What do you think? Thanks

Personally, I applied the very last day for housing and I got my first choice.

If you don’t mind me asking? What was your first choice?

I would suggest you look into off campus if he wants a single. I did my agreement in January and didn’t get any of my choices and was stuck in a double. I wen off campus and love it. Not looking back at all.
