Hello, everyone! I am a junior who is likely going to be a NMSF/NMF (index of 223). I wanted to know if anyone could tell me their experience at the UCF National Merit Scholars Weekend in November, if they have attended? UCF is my first choice and I would like to make the trip down to see it, but I don’t want to spend the time/$ if it’s not worth it. Thanks!!
It was worth it to my DD. Ucf wasn’t really on her radar. Frankly she was headed to OU. Then they reduces their NM scholarship and she started to look around.
During the visit she got to meet several national merit students. She learned about all the special programs for honors. She meet advisors in the honors college who have been a real help. I think the best part was the panel discussion where national merit kids answered questions about the programs and process. The campus visit was ok but doing it again we could reached out to talk to someone in her future department. We learned that the dorms are excellent.
UCF is not a big name school but my perception became that they are scrappy and punch above their weight especially with the benefits of honors. For a NM kid looking at medicine, computer science, or hospitality I think they clearly represent a best value and a great set of oppertunities. Probable for other programs as well, but those I’m familar with.
Day 2 we went to Coco beach. After that she had decided UCF was the place for her.
