UCF: Not accepted or rejected?

Hello! My UCF application status recently (meaning today) changed to: “Your application has undergone an initial review and is with the Admissions Committee for further evaluation. A decision may be delayed as we assess the strength of this year’s applicant pool.”

After doing some research, I noticed that this message is the exact same as the messages received by people who were deferred, except the word “deferred” is not stated. I was just wondering what this means? How long will it be until I receive a decision? Also, should I call or even write a Letter of Continue Interest despite not actually being explicitly “deferred”?

Thank you.

If I may ask, what were your SAT/GPA scores, this message does indicate that you were deferred. Also, where you hoping to get in for fall or summer, and when did you submit your initial application?

@Lukacs

SAT: 1230
ACT: 28
Weighted GPA: ~3.5

I applied in early December 2019 for the Summer 2020 term.

Should I call today then? This is my top school.

This also my top school, I am going to call them in the next 30 minutes. My guess is that they are trying to figure out if they should place in either summer or fall (I got the same exact message).

My Scores
SAT: 1190
ACT: N/A
Weighted GPA: ~4.3

I applied for early action (November 1st) and so did my friend, who already got accepted for the summer term, we should have nothing to worry about as his scores are as follows

SAT: 1140
ACT: N/A
Weighted GPA: ~3.6

I wish you the best of luck, please let me know what the final decision is, I will let you know what the undergraduate admission office tells me in about an hour.

@Lukacs

Sounds good. I’ll call this afternoon, but let me know what they say!! And thank you for replying. Good luck ? We got this

I just got off the phone with UCF admissions, basically what she said was that they are trying to place us in a term, Fall, Summer, Spring or none at all. Basically she told me the reason I was deferred was because of my slightly below average SAT scores. I asked her if I should re-send my transcripts as my GPA is now slightly higher. I was told that it would be pointless as I already have an above average GPA and that didn’t effect my decision at all. I had the choice to get to reviewed quicker, if I wasn’t going to update my scores or transcripts. I haven’t took another SAT since my first one, so I opted to send my transcript to the committee again. Apparently, this will get me final results within a week. I am now regretting not taking the SAT again and getting a higher score. :neutral: I will let you know the final decision as soon as it comes in, please let me know if they tell you anything different.

Just an update, go check your application. After calling them and telling them to re-look at my application I was accepted for Summer 2020 in less than 3 hours later!! Best of luck!

@Lukacs

@Lukacs

congratulations !!! that’s great news for you. I have been deferred for some time now and just waiting since this is my first choice also. What did you say to the counselor for them to look at your application and make a decision right away?

@Lukacs CONGRATS! When I called earlier, they stated that my test scores were okay, it was just my GPA that is below average. They said they received my mid year transcript and a decision should be out “in a few weeks”. Hoping for the best.

@marisahart
Basically, I just said that there was another college waiting on my response and that UCF was my first choice. I explained that the college would withdraw their original offer if I did not accept soon. That is when she gave me the choice to resend my application to the committee. I did this twice as the first time I got my awaiting application to deferred and the second granting acceptance to the 2020 summer term.
