UCF or FIU ( Civil engineering )
Okay here’s the thing I got accepted to both schools and the tuition and fees are very similar and both will be covered by financial aid. I just want to have a better idea of which school is best for me. I live down here in Miami with my parents, so I would save money when it comes to rent and off campus living if I attend FIU. Unlike UCF where I would just have to spend money on living expense like rent and food. Also I did some personal research and came to an idea that UCF is a better school engineering wise ( based on a "smart rate " out of a pie circle that takes plenty of things into consideration. UCF 88% score and FIU 54% score ) but I’m really not sure if its that worth it to actually move up north and pay for living off campus just for a better program. I’m also really not sure in depth and personal how big of a differences the program is a at UCF than FIU. So basically the question I’m
Asking guys is " is it worth paying the extra 700$ ( approximation ) a month on living expense for a better program? Btw I’m going to use some of my personal savings and if I need any more financial assistance I would take out a federal loan just for rent and food… Or should I just jump into the FIU program and save my money while living with my parents as I continue my studies?
Another question, does graduating from UCF give me a better position after graduation in finding a job or being recruited plus better pay than FIU?
Thanks guys very much appreciate
I saw your post and got interested because I had the EXACT same question as you about 2 weeks ago. I’m also from lower Florida and I ended up choosing UCF over FIU because of a few factors, so here it goes. Ucf has much better internship opportunities than Fiu. While Fiu has some local companies, ucf has the likes of Lockheed Martin, Siemens, Disney, NASA, and more all relatively close and within reach. Ucf was also originally built to supply NASA with engineers, so its engineering program will always get the most attention from the school (so more funds). Fiu pays more attention to its medical and business fascilaties: You can even see that by just touring the buildings. The college of engineering at Fiu is about a 10 min drive from main campus and felt a little underwhelming. Ucf has a couple/few engineering buildings on main which all look up to spectacular. In the end, if you choose an ABET accredited program from either school, the paper will look similar to employers. For me however, it was a little more than that. I felt enthusiasm in Orlando which I didn’t in Miami, which will further drive me to try harder in the future. It’s all relevenat to what you value. I wish you luck, and let me know what you chose! Cheers Bud
@Kacper1998 i find myself leaning a lot more towards ucf and I won’t make my decision until I go a visit the school but yea I value everything you basically said so thanks a lot for the reply man I really appreciate it. Good luck
In terms of academics UCF > FIU. Don’t compromise on your education, it is your personal self investment,
