I have a few more UCF questions and I just posted a thread, so I'm just going to post the rest in one thread.
Please answer as many as you can :)

Housing for freshman - What is the best? I want to be social and I really want to meet a lot of people and make lots of friends to hang out with, but I'm not into drinking or anything, so I don't plan on being social in that sense. I don't want to be somewhere where my roomates will be wasted all the time.

Majors - I want to become a physical therapist, so I'm looking into different undergrad degrees. I really like UF's Applied Physiology & Kinesiology degree, and I'm not sure there are any degrees at UCF that will be as good for getting into a DPT program. I'm looking at Pre-cinical, Athletic Training, and Exercise Science. Does anyone have any experience in this area? I'm not sure which major to pick :/

Burnett Honors College - What kind of scores do I need to get in? I know there a no actual minimum scores, but what is average for people who get in?

Scholarships - When does UCF start offering scholarships? I just got accepted for Fall 2013.

Clubs/Organizations - I want to get involved in some clubs and organizations at UCF - recommendations on which clubs to join? I want something I can be regularly involved in where I can meet friends.

Roomates - Should I get a single room if I have the chance? Or is having a roomate not so bad?

General atmosphere - what is it like living on campus? Do students party a lot or is it easy to meet people who don't party? How easy is it to get to know lots of people there? I'm a little shy lol but I really like hanging out with people and going out with friends a lot.

Libra tends to be the most social. Nike, Hercules and Apollo are all fine as well. Lake Claire is less social, but you get your own room. Towers is the most anti-social of the on campus choices.

I’m not sure how entrance requirements vary from school to school, but you should look at your top choice PT schools and find something that covers most or all of the pre-reqs. You’ll probably need Bio classes, including Anatomy and Physio, Chemistry, Physics etc. Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences cover most, if not all, of them.

The average SAT is 1384/2046 and average ACT is 30.

Not sure, but I think it starts in the Springish time (once the school has accepted a good portion of its applicants).

This question is really obscure. What are you interested in? Politics? There is College Democrats and College Republicans. Religion? There are multiple clubs for Bible study alone, not to mention clubs for Islam, Judaism etc. Sports? Try to make your own intramural team. Medical clubs? There’s AMSA, PPMS and even one just for future PTs (I’m pretty sure).

It’s a toss-up. A roommate could be your new best friend, your worst nightmare or anything in between. If you don’t have someone you know to room with, you take a risk. My advice is try to use a roommate matching service if you can (or room with a friend). Other than that, evaluate the risk. Could you tolerate living with someone you aren’t fond of for 2 semesters?

Depends where you live. If you live in Towers, the atmosphere is not as social. If you live in one of the freshmen dorms, they tend to be more social. Student’s do party a lot (or it seems to be that way because they are really vocal about it…) It’s up to you to make an effort though. Find a club, introduce yourself to people etc. and try to make friends.

Okay, I think I’ll choose Nike as my first choice. It seems nice enough, but social at the same time.

I’d be interested in a Christian group and something to do with Health Sciences or pre-pt.

Hmm it’d be really disappointing to have a roomate I don’t get along with, but if I get a roomate I like it might be fun. Tough decision

Thanks for the advice!

I urge you to use some kind of web-tool to match up with a room mate - my daughter started the summer program and stayed at Nike, and although she got along great with her room mate, the other girl had a tendancy to want to party, whereas my daughter isn’t into that.

She really wanted to stay in Nike for the fall session, but procrastinated and didn’t get in as it filled up quite quickly. She is now in off-campus housing, but she is rooming with 3 other great room mates who have similar values to her own. She is happy she had that time in Nike, and feels moving off-campus was not the horror she thought it would be.

Is she in UCF affiliated housing? I looked at some off campus housing choices but I’m not sure since they don’t have campus security…

Yes - she is in North Gate Lakes - since moving there, I’m not sure what difference “affiliated housing” really means. And there is no campus security. I was quite concerned, but at that point, there was NO available on-campus housing available, so it was the best choice as it is literally across the road from campus.

NOw that she’s been there a few months, I am much more comfortable with it, and feel very confident it was a great choice for her. I had read horror stories on the internet about ALL off-campus housing. She (so far) has had none of those experiences. She does have her own car, and so does each of her room mates.

She’s an 18-year-old freshman, and comes from a pretty rural community, so the whole experience is a bit of a cultural shock. Which is really what I wanted for her - starting in the summer and living on-campus was perfect to acclimate her to UCF. Moving to North Gate Lakes for the fall session has been another great stepping stone in her transformation to an adult. She now has a part-time job a few miles from campus, and it’s literally like living in an apartment complex - only all the other tenants are UCF students.

I’ll be looking for a Christian group too and I’m I’ll be a Biomed major(: Hopefully I’ll see you on campus! I’m still deciding whether I want to be on campus or in affiliated housing!

Yah we’ll both be taking lots of science classes! The affiliated housing looks really nice, I’ve driven by it a few times & it’s right by campus.
