Hello everyone! I recently applied to UCF. I am from out of state and know this school is extremely hard to get in. It has been nearly 2 weeks and I haven’t heard anything yet and it says my application is still being processed (is this normal? I don’t know if I need to submit anything else or if that is correct). I know probably not, but I was wondering what my chances for admission or even a waitlist would be for marine biology at UCF. Thank you!
GPA: 3.86 uw, 4.33 w
Rank: 50/500
ACT: 20 (I could only take it once because of covid:( )
7 AP’S (all A’s and 1 B), 4 dual enrollment classes with local college
9+ clubs (I was president of one of them, then NHS, Beta Club, National Competition team for Ocean Science Bowl etc.)
Internship with local college (40+ hours)
70+ volunteer hours

Hello! I don’t have much but I can tell you that I applied early January and just today I heard back from them for the first time and it was a waitlist. My friend who is in AICE, applied for the top ten knight program and they said it still took them about a month to hear back. Realistically, I would say you may have to wait about 2-3 more weeks for a decision maybe around this time since their such a big school, but I’m sure its different for everyone :).
I think it’s very hard to predict, but I have a couple of comments.

First, know that UCF will recalculate your weighted GPA, using only the core courses required by the State of Florida for graduation. In other words, you won’t get the bonus for electives, so your weighted GPA will probably drop a little. UCF awards 1 point for A and .5 for B.

I have no idea what UCF is going to do about standardized tests this year. There are tons of students in the same boat as you who only got to take one test, and some didn’t get to take any. And UCF relies heavily on SAT and ACT scores.

If you get offered Summer 2021 enrollment, JUMP at it! First of all, if you decline, you are done. But equally important, Summer enrollment is one of UCF’s best kept secrets. All it means is you have to complete one online course during Summer B, and you are admitted for the Fall.
If I were you, I think I would call the Marine Biology department and see if they can give you any guidance. You look like a good candidate to me, but that ACT score is going to reduce your chances. Maybe if you discuss your major-specific extracurriculars with them, they can make some suggestions.
