UCF waitlisted for housing

I have been waitlisted for housing at UCF for the fall. Anyone know chances of getting in and if I don’t, where should I live close to campus?

Try the UCF Reddit- they always have listings and people asking for roommates.

I have not found anybody who can give an answer to the housing waitlist question! Our daughter’s preferred roommate is on the waitlist for the Towers, but we have no idea what her chances are.

I suspect it depends on which dorm area you are seeking, and also whether you’re trying to get into an LLC. The more specific your preferences, obviously the more things have to fall into place for you to get off the waitlist.

I believe NorthView is still open, but NorthView is very expensive.

Once you do get approved for your choice, you can use the roommate matching tool and prospective roommates can “pull you in” to their rooms based on their approval date, not yours.

And…random question about your screen name. What’s the ice reference? Are you a skater?

I am also waitlisted for the academic dorms and I think the only thing we can do is wait and see if space opens up

Does anyone know if someone can pull you off the waitlist when choosing roommates?

No, they cannot. I asked that question directly to Housing and was told no.

However, once you clear the waitlist, they can pull you in…but there’s a problem for the person who is already in.

The approved person is going to be assigned an appointment to make their actual room selection, and those appointments are scheduled by housing approval date. They will have a brief window of time to make their selection, and can’t move it earlier or later.

Once they make their room selection, ANYBODY with an appointment can select to be their roommate – and they cannot veto anyone.

So, when you clear waitlist, you need to IMMEDIATELY notify your prospective roommate and give them your Housing ID info (which is different from your regular login). That way they can pull you in quickly to avoid someone else snatching up the empty spot.

Just a comment about using this forum for information:

First of all, you’re asking for info from anonymous people on the Internet who may, or may not, know what they are talking about.

Second – some questions are extremely time-sensitive and others can wait until…whenever.

If you need a rapid response to a question – or the accuracy of the answer is critical – you are FAR BETTER OFF calling the appropriate UCF office directly. They are good people, and they are very helpful.

If you rely on social media for your “knowledge,” you are only hurting yourself and your chances of getting what you want.

FYI- D18 got her time to pick a dorm room today- June 10th.

ETA- yikes meant to put that in the fall move in thread! Has anyone had any news on housing?

I watched the “Town Hall” yesterday and they are making plans for full on-campus housing in the Fall.

They are emphasizing the FTIC college experience, so they are prioritizing freshmen for in-person classes…which has upperclassmen upset.

They also mentioned the possibility of in-person classes until Thanksgiving and then online for the remainder of Fall. Students would not have to leave, and campus would remain open, so all the resources would remain in place. There is only one week of classes after Thanksgiving and then Finals, so that actually wouldn’t be very disruptive.

i* I think it’s happening.

They are going to have a rigorous testing, quarantine, and contact tracing system in place. The UCF Medical Director said they consider dorm housing “high risk” for covid, so they may be testing every dorm resident.
