Come to UChicago! The atmosphere is great, and everyone is so friendly. I especially love the professors who really want to make sure you understand the material yet you still have to put in the effort and do the work

Since we’re posting anonymous comments from student reviews, I’ll show re-post this one for University of Chicago:

My point is this–there are people who will be unhappy wherever they end up, and people who will make the most of any situation. I think the majority of students at University of Chicago are happy with their decision, just as I think the majority of students at Middlebury are happy with their choice. Beefing up your argument by presenting snippets from unhappy students may be informative to some extent, but realize that we could fill volumes with both positive and negative reviews of both schools.

^You’re absolutely right Arcadia, here are numerous sites that include student reviews:

Those are some of the sites I plowed through in my selection process. Please take note of the dates of graduation and submission of those posts though. Somebody who graduated from the 90’s, for example, can complain about something the school might have addressed by then (in which case you should find out if the school has addressed those complaints).

As Arcadia correctly states, there will be happy and unhappy students at both campuses. That is why you must choose on FIT, and in order to do that you have to sit down and consider which school contains the “lesser evils” that you can deal with. You can’t choose one school and expect the negative aspects to go away. Are you willing to sacrifice being in a slightly more nurturing academic environment in order to be surrounded by peers who you more easily can connect with, or are you willing to bear the isolation and different social atmosphere of Middlebury to have that LAC academic experience? I have no doubt you will find many like minded people at Middlebury you can hang out with, and the hard data (as well as numerous anecdotes by current students/recent grads here on CC) suggests that your classroom experience in U Chicago will be a lot closer to that of an LAC than a large public uni, but there definitely are differences and you need to factor all of them together to consider which ENVIRONMENT will be the best for YOU to thrive in. If your absolute top priority is an extension of your academic high school experience and that can be achieved more easily in Middlebury, then I guess your answer is there.

BTW, the quote I posted depicts Middlebury as “bone chilling”, I hope you know how brutal Chicago winters can be, so much so Forbes listed them as among the worst in the US: [America’s Worst Winter Weather Cities - Forbes.com](America's Worst Winter Weather Cities)

^Ok, for some reason CC is blocking some of those sites. Anyway, just google “X College student reviews” and you’ll find them.

I’m no expert, but U Chi has an outstanding reputation where I live.

[National University Rankings | Top National Universities | US News Best Colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities)

US News ranks U Chi at #5, Tied with MIT, Caltech, Stanford, and U Penn, and behind Harvard and Princeton (tied for #1), Yale (3), and Columbia (4). I know US News isn’t perfect, but it has a very good reputation for ranking schools, so I think this ranking is pretty accurate. By the way, Cornell doesn’t appear until #15, after JHU, Washington U, and Brown. To be honest though, I don’t see why it matters, because these are all outstanding schools however you look at them.
