@AnimeMango i chose to make my own prompt (about theories lol–don’t know how well thats gonna go over but fingers crossed)
@NikkuWadde first congratssssssss! secondly, because its an outside scholarship that can be applied anywhere I’m not sure if its necessarily relevant or able to help your chances with uchicago, but honestly i’d do it anyway. better safe than sorry. (telling them can only help your chances, not hurt)
wait @NikkuWadde never mind! there is a coca cola thread you should join and i think they said to definitely contact the office!
@NikkuWadde Congrats!!! That’s great! I would definitely let the school know. It’s an accomplishment.
Btw, is Arabic the language you speak at home?
@futureauteur I hope it went well. I was actually worried about mine too. I might have made it too long and weird lol…
@AnimeMango Nope, I don’t speak Arabic at home (I’m just your average Black guy), I learned it on a study abroad scholarship funded by the State Dept. called the National Security Language Initiative for Youth. I studied Arabic in Morocco for 3 months this summer, and have working fluency as a result.
I chose portal prompt too but I feel like my essays were too serious in tone compared to the ones they’ve released lol
I did mainly the vestigial one although i subtly mentioned all the other prompts in my essay as well.
@Bse15578 i’m on the same boat but dont worry cuz they said u can approach the essays with a downright serious tone.
I did the vestigial prompt … I liked my essay but reading the sample ones makes me feel really inadequate… :))
i just had my interview with an alumni!!!
@NikkuWadde omg!! I’m African American and I speak Arabic which I learned at a semester abroad in Cairo. It’s such a coincidence because I wrote the language essay also!
@Superstar23 That’s so cool! Hey maybe if we’re both admitted, we can practice together. I chose global studies and and Middle East studies as my potential majors. What about you? Also, what geographical area are you from, I’m from Ohio.
@Bse15578 @KoreanConnect98 mine was super serious too! And kind of informative/impersonal…but I figured it still showed them how I think(?)
I did the part/whole prompt
Hey guys! Does anyone here intend to major in UChi’s Molecular Engineering program?
@NikkuWadde Ohh I see. That’s so cool! I’ve always wanted to study abroad, particularly to Japan or Korea since I love both languages and cultures and am learning both. That’s why I love the east Asian languages and civilizations minor at uchicago.
Do you like Arabic?
I love Arabic. I also love listening in on conversations. They be talking smack but little do they know… I understand them! No but honestly, I love it. Its beautiful, and its such a nice thing when I go to Arab countries, and I can speak in their native language… its like I’m disproving the typical “American” stereotype. @AnimeMango
@NikkuWadde I’d love to practice! I plan to major in Chemistry but minor in International Studies. I’m considering going down the International Public health and Medicine career path. And I’m from New Jersey.
It’d be nice! @Superstar23 I really want to live in the international house
