@fakemonk yea through cc and reddit :-/
Also, will having my guidance counselor phone my admission counselor help? I am wondering if I should ask my GC to do this
@fakemonk Dude even if they phone admissions it really won’t impact your chances. When they review applications if they like you then they will admit you, but if they don’t a phone call won’t do much.
Expect a rejection and if you get admitted then great!
Guys,
Every year I repeat myself on this “official” thread. And I am repeating my previously posted comments:
A small hint for those are on the waitlist.
First of all, My D has graduated several years ago and she was the lucky few (under 10 for that year) who got off the list. I don’t think D is much better than all the others on the waitlist. However, she went to a high profile HS and Chicago offered admissions to two top graduates who are both of her friends, so she knows. Both of them did not accepted the offer and went elsewhere. As soon as they reject the offer, she got a call from Chicago and got off the waitlist.
One more hint: we were full pay.
Some thing for you to think about.
@artloversplus I don’t think anybody else from my school applied. Maybe my district?
I have heard of people who did creative stuff to get off the waitlist, things like making a YouTube video showing their love of the school or sending a hand colored book. But I am pretty sure the admission office is already tired of these tricks lol
@fakemonk I agree; I think it’s a one and done thing. Are you referring to the colored books guy that got off of 9
Waitlists? Lucky him! I did see someone who made a youtube vid got in a few years back, but someone made one last year (in my opinion, it was much better than the other guy’s), but she was not fortunate enough to gain admission. Unless one can come up with something very creative that most likely has not been done, I wouldn’t try anything. I’m sure that the vast majority of people that are lucky enough to get off waitlists just sent LOCIs. I know someone said their sister got into UChi off the waitlist, and didn’t even send an loci, which annoys me, personally. It is what it is. Best of luck to all!
Has anyone here taken the Physics SAT II? If so, please take a gander at my latest thread. I would really appreciate it!
@Ashtash How about getting a UChicago tattoo? jk
anyone else applied business/finance/booth business school?
@okaylolreally Mine was the exact same as @Ali059 . So it was certainly copy pasted
@fakemonk haha, it’s funny because that was on their blog, and they were like “maybe stick with something else”
@artloversplus that interesting. So does that mean UChicago admits people based on region, or major maybe?
@CPTsymmetry from my experience how i read @artloversplus reply was that certain schools/regions are more likely to get taken off? which may change with every year. The reason why i brought the ‘certain schools’ bit in was bc I know that last year our school had two kids taken off the waitlist (on top of two already accepted), and our school has quite a high overall accept rate for chicago (around 30 percent the last time i checked, but that ofc includes many years in the past when chicago had a higher acceptance rate too). We’re international btw. Anf ofc this is all anecdotal, feel free to chip in with your two cents
I doubt Chicago admit students by major as you can choose and switch majors after you are attending. However, if you have some special telent that they need, you are more likely to get off the list. The kid I know who took off the list was a near recruit of their soccer team. She was taken off the list because one of the position she plays did not accept the offer.
I just submitted my letter yesterday but didn’t get any response from my regional counselor. Should I resend my LOCL?
@Faexpopuli yes send it two more times just incase.
The same one
I sent an email asking to confirm my letter, but still not heard anything back. Should I contact other region’s counselor? So frustrating.
