UChicago 2022 Waitlist Thread

Yes the admit rate for the waitlist is much lower than 12%. I’d say it’s closer to the regular decision admit rate.

I hate being the party pooper but I just want to make sure you guys know. Expect rejection and if you get in congrats!!

Unless the yield is crazy low this year. Which I doubt.

@artloversplus That number is certainly not absurd. You’re not accounting for the fact that the waitlist pool is much smaller than the regular pool. If 2 people were on the waitlist and 1 got taken off, the waitlist would have 50% admit rate. The data my counselor has access to, says out of the 1,800 person waitlist last year, 200 were taken off (I’m assuming that means gap year and regular waitlist). That’s 11%…

@Ashtash
I think your counselor is wrong, if he/she can get that info, why some other counselors could not and why the college not publish it? Why it is private/secret info only supply to your counselor?

@artloversplus I suppose he just knows where to look, or has connections. I was there when he pulled them up, and even if you look at previous threads, people talk about conversations they had with their regional counselors. Based on the conversations my counselors have had with UChicago and from conversations other people have had, I think it’s possible. I’m not saying it’s 100% accurate or that it will be like that this year.

I never said private or secret. The vast information available regarding UChi’s waitlist comes from CC and speculation. After looking at several UChicago discussion and waitlist threads from previous years, everyone bases numbers off of what they “think.” I’m basing what I believe to be true off of multiple counselors who have connections to UChicago. I’ve also spoken to people recently admitted from the waitlist in previous years. This is the conclusion I have come to based off the evidence I have which weighs stronger in my mind than CC speculation. I’m not saying it is completely accurate, nor do I care if people believe me. People should make their own conclusions off of what they know since, yeah, UChi doesn’t publish official numbers. Even with the evidence I have, I don’t think my chances are magically high. In fact, I recognize how slim they are. I’ve sent in all my stuff and if, by pure luck, I get chosen, then awesome, yay, life is great. I definitely don’t have unrealistic expectations.

Agree to disagree.

Ashtash – you know your counselor better than anyone else here, so you decide for yourself.

However, I did have a thought about the wording. It is possible that 1800 people were offered a place on the waitlist and 200 of them “were taken off” meaning they declined to stay on the waitlist, as opposed to enrolling in the school. The phrasing in your earlier message left room for this interpretation (IMO) and I am wondering if there was confusion in the way people talked about the numbers. I know I have had confusing number conversations myself.

The idea that 11% of the students who are offered waitlist positions turn them down makes sense to me.

Just a thought to consider. Hope it helps.

@Legends and @troky0627 did you guys email your LOCI? I uploaded mine to the portal on April 1… Haven’t gotten a reply yet. Does it seem less personal if I don’t email it?

@Legends yes

I emailed mine in and got a reply a few days later. I don’t know if it seems less personal to upload but it makes sure that someone will eventually see it if you email it.

Emailed, if I don’t get a reply by the end of april I will upload.

Based on what I’ve been hearing it seems like everybody and their mom got waitlisted…

does anyone think there’s a likelihood that they won’t dip into the waitlist at all this year? I mean they did have EDI and ED2… The class seems pretty full as it is? :confused: or maybe i’m just trying to prepare myself for rejection…

It’s always a possibility. If Chicago is not your top choice then I recommend not accepting waitlist offer. Saves the admissions office alot of time. They’re probably super stressed and opens up a possible spot for someone else.

Hey guys,
I’m an international student who was waitlisted at UChicago during their ED2 round of admissions. I just wanted to ask how does the university contact students in case they get in? I heard that the admission officers call students. So am i now supposed to pick up every single unknown number just in case its the university? Or do they send emails too?
I know that the waitlist is incredibly competitive, and I probably won’t be selected, but I thought I’d still ask.

Thanks!
