UChicago 6-Year Graduation Rate Hits 93%

Worth noting that UChicago's 6-year graduation is now 93%, according to the U.S. Dept. of Education.

I expect UChicago's graduation rate to grow to 94% or 95% in the next couple of years. I won't extrapolate out any further than that, though with the freshman retention rate at an all-time high and admit rate at an all-time low, you can imagine the graduation rate will see some improvements.

To give you some idea of how the graduation rate has been climbing over time:

According to the University of Chicago Magazine, in 1983 the College was graduating only 71 percent of its students after six years.

Last year's U.S. News ranking was based on a 92% graduation rate (average of those who started college in years 2001 through 2004):

WOW, Chicago only had a 71% six-year graduation rate in 1983???
Talk about improvement…

Yep! The graduation rate has been improving at the rate of .76 points a year on average for the past 28 years (22 / 28= .7857)

I’m guessing the graduation rate will max out somewhere between 95-98%. (Harvard’s is 98%, the highest among the top schools, and it’s hard to see how any school could go much higher… just because there are so many situations that can arise when you have thousands of students.) UChicago should reach 95% in 2 or 3 years and if it does go up to 98% it could do so in as little as 6 years.

Soon, the complaints about the graduation rate will be put to rest once and for all!
