@phillip_p if you were accepted then how could you have done anything wrong?
@molly18191 Did you get any information regarding financial aid? I didn’t get any.
@phillip_p The personalized letter thing is heavily dependent on your regional AO. I got a card, but it wasn’t personalized at all. Some AOs may not do them at all. Or it might be late.
My son did receive a personalized note card that mentioned specifics on his app - I think it probably depends on the AO as others have said. Doubt it means one thing or the other - if you’re admitted that’s what counts!
I think that the notes vary by region. I imagine the admissions people vary in terms of how much they want to write. Its a nice touch.
are all admitted students offered the Destination UChicago fly-in program?
@andreas812 no, maybe 10%
No, it is income dependent for that program.
It is not solely income dependent, it’s also for underrepresented students.
Hmmmmm. So Uchicago would pay for the fly in of a very wealthy URM?
I’m a URM, and while I am not very wealthy by any means, my family is middle class and wouldn’t have trouble paying the ticket. So I assume they ignore income in order to attract diversity. (Funny enough I am ED so they didn’t really have to do it)
^^ SupremeRussian did you apply for Fin. Aid by any chance?
I am very frustrated with UChicago. My adopted son is an URM who has been admitted, and he was sent an invitation for the Fly-In program. He also received a scarf in the mail yesterday. The problem is that his FinAid package was also posted online yesterday, and they are offering very little aid. I sent a letter explaining our circumstances, but I guess they don’t think they are enough to warrant more help. UChicago is my son’s first choice. They saw our FAFSA before the fly in offer was extended. Why fly him in only to break his heart, as he knows we can not afford it? He has received many almost full ride offers from multiple other schools. Guess that is where he will end up. Wish I could help him more…
@catlanbert if you just sent that letter then they haven’t had a chance to respond to the appeal, correct?
Which other schools have offered him significant merit aid?
catlanbert - Don’t give up yet. I was in the same boat as you (except my son applied RD). I was able to show better numbers from peer schools and UChicago eventually came up with a package which was as good or better than the others (except the full ride State schools). Not saying it will work for sure. But it worked for me. Good luck to you.
@catlanbert Since your son (I assume was admitted EA) there is also the possibility of merit money. I would suggest that he attend the fly in and talk to the FA office directly. Also there is a lot is time to see what offers he gets from other similar schools and send those in to the UChicago FA office.
@cu123 absolutely - plenty attended last year that did not apply for FA or received very little.
@catlanbert did you call directly and speak to someone ? I would not rely on an email and by all means attend the flyin.
Did all admitted students received the package that includes scarf, hat, t;shirt, pen and car sticker? I just saw this video about this girl she got admitted ED , and she just received the hole package including the official letter of acceptance …
My son got accepted Ed and received that letter almost first week after the result and few weeks ago received the scarf no hat no t-shirt but we going to admitted students in NYC on Feb 3 so maybe he will get something there. Who knows
Last year it came a little bit piecemeal, so you still might be getting stuff for a while.
Can someone who has been already been admitted EA or ED1 answer a quick question for me? What did the acceptance look like on the portal, and were there instructions right away on how to submit deposit, make housing request, etc? How much is the enrollment deposit? My son is an ED2 applicant, and we’d like to be ready to act right away, to maximize chances of housing choice… thanks in advance for info!
