My, “why chicago” was crap; clearly indicated my lack of interest in going there. So I think the creative one was best.

7) In what do you want to major?
I think biology? Pre-med track.

8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
Strong academics (2/300, 3.99 UW, 4.382 W, SAT: 2380, Subjects: 800,790,800, Siemens Semifinalist), Okay EC’s (400+ hours hospital volunteering, Math club co-founder, Debate VP, Co-published for research, EMT volunteer, Tennis, etc.) My “why Chicago” essay was crap and I didn’t do an interview…let’s hope things go well.

9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
1/10. I do not see myself here, especially since I found out how bad the pre-med here was. I thought there would be a lot more kids like me- applying to a good school but didn’t want to commit anywhere. I just hope to use this as a confidence boost for the RD round. I apologize if I take anyone’s spot :frowning: .

@breaker, this is in no way meant to be offensive, but why apply to a school that doesn’t have the program you want (especially if you don’t like the school)? I understand the idea of having an acceptance from a good school behind you heading into the RD round, but still…why kill yourself (or not) working on an app such as UChicago’s?

1/10, breaker746? I’m sorry, but how could you dislike such an amazing school (that you took the time and money to apply to) to the extent that you rate your interest as a 1/10? Also, what makes you say the pre-med is “bad?” At a school ranked as high as UChicago, no academic department is “bad.” To describe it as such is sort of offensive.

I don’t mean to rant and pick on you, but this thread is intended more for people who actually want to go to UChicago…your ambivalence toward the prospect of such a valuable education is sort of appalling.

@breaker746 Wow. If you actually have no desire to be at UChicago, please call and withdraw you application ASAP. There are people that would die for a spot you might take.

Maybe his parents forced him or something, but yea, there are a lot of other people who would die for a spot that he might take :/

^Agreed x1000000000. I am one of those people…

I think that its because of people like breaker746 that number of EA applicants rose to something around 8700. A lot of these people apply to a range of top schools hoping they will get into one school. The #5 rank at USNWR could have been a contributing factor as well.

My decision to apply to Chicago was mostly an impulse one- a good school that wouldn’t preclude me from applying to other EAs. As I stated I spent a single evening on the application, so it wasn’t much of a time waste. In addition I had the means to pay for it. Only after I applied did I find out how bad (aka how difficult) the pre-med is b/c of intense core cirriculum and grade deflation. If I had known I wouldn’t have applied. But I’m sure there were a TON of kids who applied (like me) just cause it was the only very high ranked school that offered a normal EA instead of SCEA, so please don’t be hatin’. If the decision is fair and is based on interest, I’ll likely get rejected. Otherwise, I apologize. Good luck to everyone! I hope those who want it get it.
