^ same boat as you, Mango.

10 more days to go. I can’t think of anything else. This is gonna crush me.

@Mango15,

I also applied EA to Chicago after doing an amazing 4 week summer program there. I was deferred too and am really pessimistic about my admissions decision.

Good luck to you!

Pessimists: UChicago has a way of surprising people. If you put your soul into your application, your odds are better than you think. It’s not about being top of your class, being president of clubs, or doing tons of community service. Those things can show character, but I got in EA without doing any of those things for the sake of dressing my app up. I just poured my soul into my essays, and they liked what they saw.

You’re more qualified than you think. And no matter what, you’ll love the next four years. Good luck!

The essays I wrote were the best essays I’ve written. I know that my essays were the only reason I got deferred. But looking at my chances, only 1% of applicants were admitted with my SAT scores, and that probably went to someone with a hook.

So statistically wise, with literally a 1% chance, which is even lower when taking into account the actually admissions rate, I think I’m right in being pessimistic haha

Grace said the announcement will be available sometime after regular school hours. I’m assuming this means around 3 or 4 PM.

Mango, would you mind posting your scores, or at least giving me a link to the data showing how many accepted students got what scores?

I’m not mango, but I think we may have similiar scores and a similar mindset. I have an amazing gpa, class rank, ec’s, pretty good essays, hardest class rigor, and good recs.

I only have a 2010 sat though and two subject tests with 710 and 720. This is why I’m expecting defeat esPecially since everyone on cc seems to have nothing below 2150.

I’m not sure where mango got that info but I’m only pessimistic because of people on this site… even though I know this sitebonly represents a very small percent of he type of people applying.

^ never forget that a 2010 is still at around the 95th percentile of performance on the SAT, or about the 97th - 98th relative to the entire American population. This website warps people’s view of reality.

How many spam applications (obviously under-qualified by conventional standards) does UChicago get? Just wondering what the real acceptance rate for the rest of the applicant pool (those who stand a chance–which means the vast majority) is.

2010 is still good but I got a 1900 -_- on collegeboard when I go to “how do I rank up” and go to the SAT math section, out of 100% only 1% got accepted with a math section score from 500-600 (I got a 580). Sucks because if I took it now I’d be in the 2000’s no doubt.

So translating that into the UChicago admissions rate too, which is not 100%, I’m looking at a .001% (not actual calculations, but somewhere in that area).

So mainly only one or two people got into UChicago with my score. Am I delusional and think I’m special enough to be that one admittance? No I’ve accepted my fate. But UChicago has been my number 1 so it will see me again for med school!

I’m also waiting anxiously for the Chicago decision…just counting the days now.
Does anyone else LOVE speculating about college admissions?

I love that moment when you’re about to open the admissions letter and your heart starts racing faster than it ever has. It’s such a rush haha. Is it weird that I even enjoy the rejections.

Haha I sort of know what you mean Mango, it’s like a year of anticipation (not to mention your future) suddenly boils down to a few words in a few seconds.

But when colleges send decisions by snail mail (as many of mine do), you kind of know if you got in or not as soon as you look at the mail, seeing as most acceptances come in big packets and rejections/waitlists come in small envelopes.

Yes same for me I’m not a fan of the snail mail decisions. But when I see the decisions online I always skip to conclusions without reading the entire letter.

For UChicago I thought I was rejected EA because I read “while we are unable to offer you a place in the class at this time…” and I stopped reading because I thought that was a rejection. It wasn’t until my mom read the letter that we realized I was deferred haha

Agreed. Snail mail decisions are a little more stressful because they never arrive when you think they will – the online business is a whole lot easier I think.

I agree with snail mail being kind of dumb. Its anticlimactic seeing a small envelope and knowing the decision. Also, mail is too slow, and because of this slowness bi have fase expectations. I’m still expecting my early writes for other schools to show up even though its been about two weeks since they were sent out two weeks ago lol.

Well, I didn’t get in. Well, good luck and congrats to those who did!
