UChicago Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@dr0wning lol I was moving into the dorm or something in my dream, probably the orientation day. ED to Columbia was my only shot of getting into such a selective school, so I don’t regret my decision. UChicago is definitely my top choice now, so let’s see how it plays out. I’ll be right above the pacific when my UChicago decision comes out, it’s going to be such a struggle lol.

@TrazCapDEV Yeah, same. At first I didn’t want to ED to Columbia and thought it was cool, but not my first choice. I ended up applying because I knew that my chances were so slim that ED was the only way to get in, but as I researched Columbia for my why Columbia essay I started to really love it. Columbia bumped UChicago from my top choice to my second choice, but it looks like UChicago is back on top now.
Are you going to buy wifi so that you can view your decision asap? Where are you going?

what did you guys write about for the extended essay?

@rhdhtai lloolol we do meet again. i got rejected so I am really hoping on Chicago.

@dr0wning I wrote the prompt “Mind that does not stick” and formatted it as a series of anecdotes, using the last word of each as the “title” for the next one. I had so much fun writing it

@dr0wning It’s an international flight so I doubt if there’s wifi available. I’m also flying UA so I mean…what do you expect. I’m flying to China since my parents still live there.

Anyone know the EA acceptance rate for UChicago?

@actssmart should be around 9-10 percent for EA and 6-7 percent overall

@kathkath42 cool! the prompts were so interesting that I had trouble choosing one, but I eventually went with the really long prompt that goes like, “modern improvisational comedy has its start at uchicago, here is the chance to play along!” and has a few required elements. It was really fun to write!
@TrazCapDEV darn  united sucks lol. since you don’t live with your parents, do you live with other relatives or something? Maybe you could ask someone you really trust, like a friend or cousin, to find out your decision?
Also, did anyone ask an essay reader on CC to help them with their essays? it’s too late to change anything but I kinda want some critique so that if I get rejected, I’ll know what part my essay had in the decision. Any suggestions?

@dr0wning well, I actually don’t see the point in doing that. I won’t be able to get my result back no matter what as long as I’m on the plane, so I might as well just check after landing.

@dr0wning @TrazCapDEV Did u guys get outright denied? I got deferred

@alpha525 ah, we meet again. well, i’ll let you guess

@dr0wning Im sorry for asking. My bad.

This place defers more ugh

@dr0wning In all honesty, I thought you were getting in. @TrazCapDEV You too man

@alpha525 haha, I’m still a little sore but I got most of my angst out of the way right after I found out. My friend also didn’t get in, and we both applied to UChicago EA. I’ll see how that goes
wdym this place defers more? is uchicago notorious for a large number of deferrals?
I’m touched that you were so confident in me  Thanks for the support. I also thought that @PilotKhyle and @soph1112 would get in :frowning: most of the people that regularly posted on the thread didn’t get accepted, which is kinda depressing.

Lol those who made the email theory didn’t get in. I got no emails and got rejected

@dr0wning @TrazCapDEV I hope we get in here. Here’s what I think. Since UChicago is EA, its not binding but it also means that those who did SCEA from Harvard Stanford Princeton and Yale can’t apply. Since the next top school after these is (Columbia Penn, etc), we might stick out more.

@rhdhtai @TrazCapDEV deferred to regular from Cornell, also my only shot at an Ivy. But I had such a difficult time deciding wether to ED or not since I loved UChicago so much too! Now it all comes down to this school…

@alpha525 I didn’t get emails and I got rejected too
wait what does this mean though " Since the next top school after these is (Columbia Penn, etc), we might stick out more."
but since uchicago is non-binding their early admit rate isn’t as high as scea admit rates (i think harvard’s is 16% or so?)
@soulswimmer13 I hope we all get in  I also struggled with ED because I loved uchicago but it doesn’t matter anymore
