Later than I should. Let’s leave it at that.
Hypothetical question for discussion purposes: would you guys do a waitlist year, or whatever it’s called, to go to UChicago? It’s when they say you can start the year after, because they’re full. Basically, starting college at 19 instead of 18, and doing who knows what for the year in-between.
Don’t think its a good idea to do a break year. If you can’t get in @ 18, what is the guarantee that you will get in @ 19? At least, I wouldn’t.
To be honest, give your best but go with what you get.
Einstein made Princeton famous and Feynman made Caltech famous - not the other way around.
If you are a great student, you will do well in life anywhere you go.
@tutututututuru I think that pathway is generally used to get unqualified development admits in without having them impact the freshman class’ statistics. I remember reading about it in the NY Times recently, but I can’t find the link. Here’s one to a Crimson article describing the same practice. It’s a little dated (2002), but the practice as described here is identical in most respects to the portrait crafted in the NYT piece.

If you aren’t an unqualified legacy, it’s unlikely you’ll face that choice.
@shivaya that’s not how it works. It’s guaranteed admission a year later. You’re accepted, you just start one year later.
@NotVerySmart I’m not planning on facing that opportunity, I had just read a bit about people who had done it. Interesting, I didn’t know that’s what it was for, though. I thought it was due to size problems.
Last year we knew at 3:30pm CST.
@UCMom19 thank you, that is very helpful
UChicago having said “late afternoon” inclines me to think it’ll likely be 4:00 or 5:00 CST this year.
Notifications can’t come too soon for me.
@tutututututuru - Thanks. I misunderstood.
@tutututututuru I thinks the “relatives” question is to help admissions if you have any further insight into the UC experience. IMO I think uncles and first cousins wouldn’t hurt…,might help?
You know, my dad didn’t really say anything about UChicago until I took an interest in it. I actually didn’t even know that’s where he went until I was like in 9th grade I think lol.
I can’t un-distract myself this week. I know I should just prepare for deferral since statistically that’s what it should be but that part of me BELIEVES I am going to UC until I hear otherwise. Ugh. I wish NU had a EA pool – all the ED kids heard back today and I wish I had an acceptance from them just in case UC doesn’t work out. I’ve been talking myself in circles all day and will probably continue to do so until Friday
Yeah it’s not really something you can take your mind off of. I’ve wrapped up my last two nights by watching UChicago videos on youtube.
On a side note, I predict this thread will hit page 108 before admissions decisions release.
Regular decision applicant here wishing you guys the best of luck! (but leave some space for the rest of us)
Notre Dame decisions released a couple of hours ago.
I was deferred. It stings, especially knowing the chances of it happening again on Friday are very high.
Guess it’s time to start some RD apps, huh?
@JPinkman don’t worry – half of us get deferred over to your boat so we wont take alllll the spots!!! Though if I take one of them I won’t be too sorry ahah
@ChiefCelery love the username. I was just accepted to ND, but a deferral there doesnt mean the same from UC – it isn’t over yet!! love to you and best of luck!!!
@shakespearedoc SAME. I keep trying to prepare myself for deferral, but there’s a tiny part of me that still has hope. It’s kind of terrible.
So, anyone excited to see Star Wars?
@whatisalie YES. I’ve been waiting since the fourth grade for it. I’m excited to see what they do with Luke.
