Looks like the other forums have started discussing 2022 already, so I am creating one for UChicago as well. Hope everybody has a great 2017 application season. Wish all of you the very best in your college quest!!

There is a very nice book written about the University by the Dean of the College that I would recommend for anybody interested in UChicago

Some really good information on the history of the University.

Keep it going @denydenzig eventually they will come! :-bd

Gah I can’t believe we only have a couple more months!

GL to you all, one advise is start early!

Oh jeez. I’m not ready for this at all.

Over on the waitlist discussion threads, it seems that UChicago is already filling the class of 2022 with waitlists who are willing to take a gap year. Is this a common practice among selective schools? How much of the class are they filling, do you think? In our calculations for the class of 2021, I don’t recall anyone subtracting out slots already filled by gappers from the prior year. Given the enthusiasm of the posters on those threads, seems that at least a few are eager to gap if it means they get to attend UChicago.

Rumor has it that they took around 50-75 students gap year for 2021 from 2020. I would think that number is going to double for this year, because the RD pool was as strong but there were no slots for them. There are probably great students in the pool, so they will cherry pick those kids out and lower their ED rate for next year.

@nevrgiveup that sounds about right. The gap year option becomes a third chance for admission (deferred from early pool, then waitlisted from RD or ED II). Wondering how many of those accepted off the gap year waitlist applied for the first time RD vs. were deferred from earlier rounds. Think I’ll peruse that thread again and/or ask the question over there . . .

Essay prompts are out! It’s getting very real

this thread finna be lit soon

i’m not ready for this

I think admit over a gap year is a very recent implementation. Perhaps only 4 years old. It will put pressure in next year’s ED acceptance rate.

Where are the essay prompts for 2018? I still see 2017 prompts on the website at UChicago.

@gunnati those are the 2017-2018 application season prompts lol, not class of 2017 prompts. The 2016-2017 prompts had the ones about defining square one and going back to it.

THE ESSAY PROMPTS HAVE BEEN RELEASED ~ hooray for Avatar the Last Airbender!!!

Does anyone know when applications open? I made an account but the site isn’t updated for 2018 applicants.

@yayhamlet Do you mean the common app? It updates August 1st.

My D got her ACT 33 com, (

en36, math 34, reading 34, science 28). Does she need to retake in sep?

If she thinks she can bring up the science score, it would be worth it since UChicago supercores the ACT.
