UChicago Class of 2022 Discussion

Accepted ED!

Yup deffered did not get that.

I been reading this forum for like 2 years, first time posting because my son got accepted to UChicago ED1, so proud of him, good luck to everyone,
From Queens NY , very competitive public high school in Manhattan

Got accepted ED!

But I didn’t receive the financial aid offer (even though I applied way in advance of the priority deadline).
Does anyone else have this issue?

accepted EA at both MIT and UChicago, I’m completely in shock

Deferral message:

Thank you for your interest in the University of Chicago. The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, and while we are unable to offer you a place in the class at this time, we would like to review your application again in the spring. If you would like to still be considered for admission, please reply using our Defer Response Form, preferably before January 5, 2018.

By confirming your interest through the Defer Response Form, the Committee will reconsider your application and any new information you send in either the Early Decision II or Regular Decision pools, depending on your choice. Please arrange for your midyear transcript to be sent to our office as soon as it is available.

If you would like to update us on your recent accomplishments, we would be glad to review additional materials. We prefer that you submit these materials through the Portfolio in your UChicago Account. Materials must be received by January 31, 2018.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu or by telephone at 773.702.8650. We hope that the University of Chicago remains high on your list and wish you the best as you continue your college search.

accepted ea! 1560 SAT 99.2 gpa

LOL! I will never understand how admissions process works. I got pretty high stats (99th percentile SAT, perfect 2 SAT Subjects, 40 IB predicted) and was waitlisted last year from RA. But this year, I am rejected from EA. Despite I was waitlisted a year ago with a bit lower stats, worse essays and less extras, I was not even deferred for this year. That’s a bit strange.

Still, I am not too sad, everything is okay. Anyway, it was not my first-choice. Good luck for all deferred and RA applicants and congrads for accepted!

@MadnessOfMercy Have you scrolled down on the Status Update page (where you see the admissions letter)? The financial aid and correspondence letters should be shown.

I am really excited for you all! For those that applied EA and get deferred, I want to ease your mind a bit. My daughter applied EA last year and was deferred. She came very close to switching to ED2, and had her counselor sign the paper before Christmas break so she would have it ready to send in. But, a series of events happened and she did not switch to ED2. She was devastated because she felt like she was letting go of the best chance of being accepted. However, she was admitted during the RD round. I truly believe they give a full review to your application again.

deferred ea. saw it coming so not too bummed, lol.

That is super strange!! I have a much lower gpa and a extremely low gpa but I got deffered. Idk how they work these out…

@azimusa2010 yeah, I did. I took a gap year due to health issues, so I have to reapply this year. Just got rejected BTW

@curiousmom5 did your daughter send in additional materials? or anything to increase her chance?

Gap year admit for class of '22 here–congrats to all the new admits! Can’t wait to meet you all!

And to those who got deferred, don’t give up! I was deferred and waitlisted before I got in. And to those rejected, you’ll end up somewhere great. I originally went ED for another school (got deferred there too), but now I can’t imagine not being a Maroon.

EA. I just got rejected. I also got a deferral from Columbia University. Ugh

I scrolled, but only the correspondence letter shows. There is no financial aid letter.

Edit: It showed up eventually, thanks for the help!

@ccauth She took the deferral letters advice about emailing her AO of her continued interest. She highlighted a few additions in that letter but she said it was hard because not that much had happened since October. But, She does know people that were accepted after being deferred. Don’t let the statistics overwhelm you. Keep positive. It would be nice to have a final answer now, but March isn’t that far away and most people won’t know until March either.

If you get accepted to UChicago for ED II, but the financial aid package is not enough, can you walk away from the ED offer, or do you have to go even if the aid package is too little/you can’t afford it?

If you are deferred for spring decisions, is the application still need blind? Or are most later acceptances full pay?
