Are deferrals frowned upon by adcoms during RD? Do they get a new review or is it basically a gift-wrapped rejection?

Thanks, I told him that last night. I also told him to quit reading the thread and comparing himself to others. Admission process is so subjective. At 18 it’s hard to believe this is not the end, but the beginning of something new.

ED admitted! Yay! SAT 1580/ACT 36, 2x800 on SAT 2, Weighted GPA 99.85/100, 5’s on 5 AP, Nat’l Merit. Double legacy as my parents met as classmates and actually had me in a UChicago onesy with pics to prove. Sigh. They said that a lot of their classmates are now sending their “spawns” back to UChicago.
