@YoungOne4 an email I sent to the AO was responded to in mid January thanking me for the email expressing my desire to still be considered for RD. Nothing since then.
Thanks, @neonblizzard.
@MaybeHarvard2022 did you send updates on the portal or directly to AO?
@YoungOne4 i never got anything- sent a letter of continued interest mid february but never heard back
@bookluver04 directly to the AO.
My S only submitted the electronic form in the portal that was referenced in the deferral update. There is a green checkmark by that item in his portal, but I was thinking it was odd that there was no further indication in the portal that his application was being reconsidered (i.e., it looks like a standard message).
@MaybeHarvard2022 oh maybe then it is not that peculiar since they probably receive a lot of updates and such. But maybe it is a good thing
For everyone wondering if it will definitely be this week: I visited UChicago about a month ago, and my dad spoke to an admissions officer who told him decisions would be released sometime between March 13th and March 17th.
their website says that it will be the late afternoon of March 16th, so this friday
All the best everybody! Lets hope for the best
My daughter was deferred to RD from EA. She submitted the deferral form on Jan 1 and requested an interview. She also followed the instructions on the deferral letter and uploaded an update letter and letter of interest to her portal rather than send it to an AO. She has not heard a thing back from anyone and was never contacted about an interview. And, her portal still says:
“Thank you for checking on your application status! At this time, we have processed all of your application materials, and your application is awaiting our committee’s review. We will communicate with you directly should we have any additional questions or concerns, and your admissions decision will be available in your account in mid-December (we will let you know when our official decision date is finalized!)”
It has said that since before they notified her EA status (notice it still says mid-December). So, all of this just confirms my belief that a deferral from UChicago is just a soft rejection and that they defer so many students to increase their RD applicant numbers so they can say they have a super low acceptance rate. Just my opinion.
I was deferred from EA as well and have the same portal message as @pcmom1. I did get a reply from my AO when I sent over my final transcript acknowledging its receipt, but nothing else.
My S has the same portal message.
Wouldn’t worry too much about what the portal says or doesn’t say. D17’s portal said the same last year when she was deferred and continued unchanged till she was admitted (EDII in her case - and no, the portal didn’t acknowledge that they had received that agreement but her AO did when D zapped it to her).
Watching the various trackers and portals is great fun and some will give off hints of a possible admit but anyone trying the same on the UChicago portal will probably be disappointed, regardless of whether he/she is ultimately admitted.
I am really excited for you all! For those that applied EA, ED1 or ED2 and get deferred, I want to ease your mind a bit. My daughter applied EA last year and was deferred and was accepted during the RD round. So, it does happen. Don’t get caught up on percentages of accepted, deferred, etc. I believe they truly do give the applications a second look.
I was deferred EA and that helps. Thank you @curiousmom5.
Good luck to everyone!! This’ll be my third decision notification of the season…
Just got rejected from MIT, hoping for some redemption come friday while at the same time preparing for rejection, is it true that the RD acceptance rate is around 2%??
@nicolasdeadman yup
