The time until decisions are out keeps getting shorter and shorter and my doubt about my status is just getting bigger and bigger. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for ED 2021? Or even previous years? I’m just so nervous lol
You can search previous threads for Class of 2020 early accept rates - they were discussed at that time. There was no ED in those days - the following year (class of 2021) was the first year under the new admission plans. And the informal numbers shared were for the entire early EA/EDI pool - about 9% overall were accepted, 2/3 of those ED. However, they don’t break it down into ED rate vs. EA rate. All we know is that EA seemed to be noticeaby lower than ED due, in large part, to way fewer numbers of EA’s actually accepted - but also likely due to way more numbers of EA’s than ED’s applying at that time. Not sure how it’s going to be this year. It’s hard to gauge future behavior off an initial roll out of a new admission plan.
I honestly didn’t think waiting for decisions would be this bad. I constantly check my UChicago Account and this thread for updates, but there’s no point in doing so. My RD applications have barely been touched; very different than my UChicago application, which I worked on nonstop for several months right up until November 1. Part of me feels like I have no chance and will automatically get rejected, but part of me also thinks that because I think I’m such a good fit for the school I have a great shot. Everything is out of my hands now, and that stresses me out.
same!! the wait is so torturous @summerhazed
@summerhazed me too! I keep checking the account, even though I know there’s nothing new there Xd
anyone know exactly when decisions are released? some schools have already announced a date (ex Cornell on Dec 7th), any updates on Chicago? Last year it was 12/19 for both ED/EA, c/o 2016 was 12/18, c/o 2015 was 12/17…is this year 12/20? just speculation
I’m praying they come out on the 15th or sooner, though I’m doubtful it will happen. So if someone from UChicago is reading this forum CoughCough. If I had to predict though I’d say they’ll come out either the 8th or the 15th.
What do you expect EA vs ED will be for acceptance rate? I imagine they’d jack up ED again and sacrifice EA to drop yield back
I’m thinking that ED will be a bit harder this year and EA not as bad as last year, but honestly no one knows. Applying ED is probably still our best shot though, so hopefully its acceptance rate will still be pretty high
UChicago just sent me an email saying that my ED1 application is complete. Does that mean that they made a decision already? Or that they simply received everything? Whatever it means, it’s freaking me out that this is actually happening and in a month I may or may not know for certain where I’m spending the next 4 years.
@summerhazed It means that they have everything. That’s it. And work on your RD apps!!! Best of luck to you though!!
Panic Attack #1 happened today. I’ve been checking my UChicago account about every day (Not sure why) but today I noticed they said they hadn’t received my ED Agreement. However, I called the Admissions Office and was told that they have it but since I submitted my application through the Coalition Application somehow it was labeled wrong and they would fix it. I knew I had submitted every thing VERY early, so if you’re seeing that and submitted through Coalition as well you might want to call.
ViewChicago tonight said they don’t have a date set for decisions yet. so scary to think about, especially since so many schools already have a planned date/time!!!

@prik22 Decisions come out in less than a month so just wait it out. None of us can accurately chance you, since were all in the same boat. Do you have a good chance? Yes, you do. However, will you get in? Only the admissions counselors can tell you that. Your stats and ECs are all great, much better than mine. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get in and I won’t or anything. You did not mention your essays, though, or your recommendations. I feel like UChicago is one of the schools that puts a ton of emphasis on personality and essays, so that can greatly impact their decision. Overall, you’re on the right track, but you’ll just have to wait and see.
And according to your other thread, you applied EA. That’ll definitely put you at a disadvantage. But by how much, no one knows
If UChicago wants to raise yield w/o sacrificing acceptance rate, they’ll probably pick more ED than EA. From what I know, no one really from my region applied ED b/c they want to save their chances for HYPS or other schools.
Speaking about chancing…
