Financial aid doesn’t affect admissions. That is a totally separated thing. It may affect the packaga amount, though.
@anonymous522083 - if you applied EA your FA stuff needn’t be in before the end of the year (and probably not till Feb. but check the website for exact dates and required supplements such as W2’s and tax returns). Fin. Aid forms for ED had a much earlier deadline because those applicants have to commit pretty quick and so get their FA decision w/in a couple days of their admission. EA should get their Fin. Aid. decision with everyone else, as long as UChicago hasn’t changed that from earlier years. Check the website to be sure. Never a good idea to rely exclusively on CC posts - not even this one!
So the only thing that will be delayed is the financial aid package?
is this a good email
Dear Amanda,
I have just completed the required financial aid worksheet and css profile. I was wondering if this will impact my early action decision due to completing them late?
Thank you for your time,
@anonymous522083 I would wait until tomorrow to send anything because the admissions officers can’t do anything for you at this point and the only reason that it would matter is if it affects your financial statement after you get your decision.
@fbsdreams @Youngmis123 couldn’t help but notice you were saying that its possible, and quite easy, to be recruited for UChicago golf (easy as its Div III). I checked the Chicago website and golf is stated as being a strictly club, not varsity, sport. Is it possible to be recruited for club sports? For schools that aren’t amazing at golf, rugby, and skiing, would I stand a chance of being recruited for them (I’m decent at all of them)? Sorry I’m not very familiar with the athletics and recruiting etc at US schools.
Thank you!
@LDNapplicantUS I don’t think I would use the word easy. UChicago has a handful of teams / individuals that compete in the national championships yearly.
Club would most likely not qualify for support from a coach, but it would not hurt to contact them. Would be pretty cool if some of the smaller schools supported applications for sports like Quidditch.
Depending on the sport, recruiting typically takes place a year or two or more before your class and requires a good deal of communication, visits and work. Being a student athlete at the NCAA level (DI-DIII) is an arduous task and at en elite Univeristy is incredibly difficult - think less than 1% of the high school level athlete would even have an opportunity.
I mentioned it, as I would leave no stone unturned if it was someone’s #1. Certainly would not hurt to contact the coaches if you have highlight videos to send.
Good luck.
@fbsdreams Thank you! Yes that’s what I previously thought; I might might reach out anyway, but not expecting anything. Chicago suits me because of its academics and not its sports! That’s the main focus of my application.
As you mention, however, it never hurts to try new methods of raising your chances!
Thanks again.
IM SO SCARED FOR TOMORROW GUYS PLZ HELP
i have really good EC’s but my gpa is ok…does uchicago look at gpa A LOT even tho u have good ec’s and really good essays? i applied ED
@EssayErase my friend got in last year RD, he had an ok gpa but great classes and ecs and a 1550 sat. i’m in a similar situation, i’ve gotten 6 Bs in high school and i’m hoping it doesn’t count against me
@EssayErase - it’s safe to say that most if not all top schools prioritize academics over other aspects of the application. The university is, after all, an academic institution. However, gpa isn’t examined in a vacuum but looked at in the context of course rigor and how much you’ve challenged yourself. Direction of grades is also a factor - a rough start but stellar grades later on in the face of challenging courses will be looked at more favorably than a great start but a stumble or two during junior or first part of senior year (when the rubber meets the road).
@spoole16180 - yes, same here my ec’s are very unique but they take up a lot of time which is why i had a dip in my grades soph yr…i mentioned this in the AI section…they will look at my application considering this right?
@EssayErase @spoole16180 I was also in a similar situation regarding the value of grades vs. ecs in college admissions. I applied Chicago EA but got into Penn ED a few days ago, so it won’t matter. Suffice to say, I think they’ll take the AI Section into context and look at the rest of your application. Good luck for tomorrow!
Hi,
Does anyone know the chances of an athlete being admitted into UChicago without a likely letter? I was recruited by the Men’s Track and Field team (Tier 1). That having been said, I was told that I still have the coach’s support but he was unable to secure a likely letter. 31 ACT. Made up my own prompt for the essay. Top Prep School in my area. 4.2 GPA. Concertmaster of a nationally reknowned orchestra. Prestigious internship over the summer. Lots of faith based service. Leadership positions in numerous clubs.
I wish the best of luck to everyone tomorrow!
@Echo19389 I am in a similar situation but with a different sport and have been wondering the same thing.
@Echo19389 @hogwartswho if you applied ED/EDII it will provide you with a bump, but without the coach using a slot, it only goes so far.
RD I would suspect same added benefit as an interview, which UChicago states is negligible. Your application will have a note attached from the Coach.
It all will come down to how you fit the admitted class.
Best of luck.
how helpful do you guys think ED2 will be? Just looked into this school and I’m in love
Guys, honestly is Chicago a good school with the environment of being in a city of violence and where fun goes to die convince me that these myths are a lie . Or it has other benefits. also the weather is horrible there
Chicago, while it does have issues with violence, is not a death trap, especially because Hyde Park is a lovely neighborhood, even if the areas around it aren’t the best. Additionally, I have friends who got to UChicago currently and say that you can make UChicago into anything you want it to be, it doesn’t have to be super stressful. And this last one is a personal opinion, but having grown up in the nearby suburbs, Chicago weather is all seasons, so it gets cold during February and hit during July, but it’s all right for the most part.
Exactly! As a Chicago suburbs kid I’d probably die if I went to anywhere South just from heat alone. It all depends where you’re from! If you’re from areas like Florida the cold weather can be a shock. Still, sweaters never killed anybody.
