My son, who is now a first year received his likely letter right around this time last year. He was/is an athlete.
I’m pretty late to this, but I applied EA economics.
UW GPA (out of 4.0): 3.96 (only had two B’s)
W GPA (our if I believe 6.0? Sorry): 4.26
Rank: 9/462
ACT: 30 (sent before I took SAT)
SAT: 1440 (I got unlucky with June)
Common App essay was about a box (more interesting than it sounds)
Uncommon essay was the story of a road (from a previous year).
AP courses: AP Lang, AP lit, AP calculus
Honors courses: PSAT, Dual enrollment US History, Physics, Algebra 3
EC: community choir, top school choir, various honor choirs, community and school theatre, Key Club, student council, student ambassadors
Good luck to all applied/applying!!!
Ouch, I got bit by the June test a bit too, @mdet451 but 1440 is still a great score, and the rest of your stats look pretty strong.
Good luck, everyone!
The idea of a University of Chicago athlete makes me smile. When I was at Chicago, most students didn’t even know where the football field was–all we knew was that they built the Reg on the old field. I’m impressed however that they are recruiting athletes.
My D a recuirted athlete (class of 2022) received her likely letter a week before Halloween last year. After her official recruiting visit which was 2nd week of October, she spoke with the coach by phone and let him know that UChicago was her 1st choice. He told her to apply via portal and she received a likely letter 5 days letter in her portal.
Applying ED1 for environmental science
Oh and I did the tree letter one for the uncommon essay
My son applied for CS I believe. Or cognitive science. Can’t remember. He has a 35 ACT and 3.97 unweighted GPA We don’t even expect he will get in since it is so competitive but he wanted to apply. He did the letter to a tree essay prompt and , well, I thought it was very good of course!
Hey guys, is anyone able to see the application checklist through their UChicago account?
Nope, not yet. I submitted mine ~2 weeks ago, and still have the “Thanks for your interest!” message on the dashboard whenever I check. Apparently, this has happened before due to the flood of applications. Is there anyone able to see the checklist yet?
Zilch on the checklist. I reckon about 4 1/2 weeks until decisions.
Has anyone received alumni interview invitation?
@routenine There is no interview this year. In lieu of the interview, there is an optional video you can send
@youngmis123, Thank you for the information. I was wondering whether not uploading the optional video to the portal will hurt my chance.
UChicago’s website (FAQs) very clearly states that you will not be penalized if you do not submit the optional video. My D says her UChicago portal says they are processing applications and checklist is not active yet, but will be processed in early November. Applicants will not be penalized if anything is missing.
I thought the “optional” interview was eliminated and replaced with the optional video?
@BrianBoiler that is correct.
Prospect portal has changed, but I still don’t see a checklist. Maybe soon.
And…it’s up. Reassuring to see the green check marks
If I see all green check marks on the Application Checklist (5 items total), should we assume the school have received all the items? Today is the first time that I saw the Portal has been updated.
yes. that means that all your items have been submitted and received, and that your application is complete.
