UChicago Class of 2023 Applicants

Hey, I’m international (Nigerian - seems like there are quite a few of us applying here >:D< ), and I’m applying for CS.
Is it weird that my Chicago supplement isn’t marked as submitted on the checklist, even though I can clearly see 2019 First Year Supplement uploaded? (I submitted the supplement through the portal and not CommonApp)

@lovebug339 I suppose you can email the admission officer at UChicago who is responsible for your region regarding your supplement essays.

?

I’m applying EA! Does anyone have any idea which day early decisions will come out? They said mid-December, but a specific date would be nice.

Two years ago EA and ED1 came out on the same day. Was that not the case last year?

Extensive research (by which I mean reading 2022 and 2021 threads) has led me to believe it will be Monday December 17th.

I’m so confused. I just got an email that my application is complete. With no interview I don’t know how we all stand out!

@SirStencil the interviews were never evaluative. And they totally depended on which/whether alums are in your area.

The video idea is supposed to put a face to the app. That’s basically what an interview does.

If it’s any comfort, over on one of the Ivy threads a couple of interviewers are discussing how their hit rate is about the same - or worse - than the general admission rate. And the interview there IS evaluative. Interviews just don’t carry that much weight, if any.

Finally, if “all” stand out, then no one stands out.

Chicago and many other schools realize that interviews are a privileged opportunity and are moving away from it to pursue the No Barriers approach to admission. On balance, I think it’s a good idea. Schools that use demonstrated interest track all that stuff - campus visits, interviews, etc.
Two different approaches.

Having reviewed my D’s application, I think the admission officers have enough material to work with.

My D didn’t do the video - but I guess you could ‘stand out’ with that.

  1. speculating on how Admissions will respond to someone’s essays is pointless, since you simply don’t know; and 2) inviting people to comment or critique your essays when they are now in the rear-view mirror is just as pointless, since you can’t do anything to alter them. Let’s all move on to more interesting matters. Good luck to all the EA and ED1 applicants!

Guess what, I didn’t apply to Uchicago again : ’ (

Good luck to all of you ED’ers and EA’ers to Uchicago.
I’mma keep hoping to get into my ED school ; )

Ugh this waiting game is killing me…I just wanna know when decisions come out!

December 14 - 18. Chill man : )))

Do applicants receive likely letters through the UChicago portal or through the mail?

@Pianoman3423 Through the portal and then they might send a follow up through the mail for people who are accepted

@Youngmis123 What would be the rough time frame for them to send out the likely letters? Did anyone receive it already? Thanks.

I know I’m late to this thread but I applied EA for anthropology or near eastern studies! My birthday is smack dab in the middle of when decisions are going to come out so what a surprise that’s going to be. Anyone got advice for chilling out in the meantime?

Hey, @cupricchloride, I’m in a similarly-sized boat (EA for physics).
To distract yourself, I’d recommend taking the time to start a new hobby, like drawing, to take your mind off of things, or maybe working your way through a reading list of books you’ve wanted to read for a while.
Or, depending on your class schedule, you can focus on keeping your grades up as high as possible - for example, I know my Calculus homework has been getting the better of me lately, so I’ve been taking to time to focus more on the material than I usually do.
Also, if you absolutely HAVE to check things, make sure that all your financial aid papers and forms have gone through for all of your schools (Last thing you want is to get in and find out your FA apps didn’t go through) - or, if you haven’t submitted all of your applications yet, you can work on those applications for RD or ED II as well!
Lastly, whatever you do: stay off of “Chance Me” threads on here, or anywhere else. All you’re going to do is give yourself a headache and more worry. What’s done is done, and I’m sure your application is awesome.
Hope this helped, and good luck!

@TerrisAdAstra Thank you for the kind response! You’re so right. It’s super easy to get caught up in the environment on all these forums. College admissions are, for lack of a more eloquent term, a hot mess. Everybody who’s posted is wonderfully accomplished and deserving of a spot at a great university.
I had better get to AP Lit readings so in the event I get accepted they don’t have second thoughts!
Thanks again for the kind words.
