hey, for anybody that applied to transfer to uchicago, how did you approach the dean of students to fill out this form? i don't even know mine. please help, i'd appreciate it.

Well, let me give you a small disclaimer before I say anything. I'm a freshman college student and am no expert on the process, so please take my advice lightly.

First I think you should set up a meeting with your dean if possible. I attend a school where there are 20,000 undergraduates, and I was still able to make an appointment with my dean and get to know him and outline my reasons for wanting to transfer. He was incredibly open-minded. You don't HAVE to have a personal relationship with your dean; I've heard numerous times before that the dean's "recommendation" is not a recommendation at all, but rather a statement of good standing. After you talk to your dean, let him/her know that you want to transfer and clearly outline your reasons to him/her, keeping in mind to not unnecessarily insult the school for any reason. From what I've gathered just from my first few months at college, deans are there FOR you. They WANT to know your concerns and help you fix any problems. So don't be intimidated and go for it!
