I was deferred by UChicago EA. I was beyond suprised because I got 1900 on my SAT.. 680 writing, 640 reading, 580 math.

I know it was my great essays that saved me because I wrote 3 of the best essays I have ever written for UChicago.

My EC's are okay, won 2 awards, 2 AP's, 1 dual-enrollment class.

My question is..do you think it will be enough that I show good grades or would I have to raise my SAT to have a slight chance of getting in?

For my mid-year report it will show that I took AP Human Geography and received an A, Dual-enrollment Physics and received a B, D-E Bio and received an A, D-E college algebra and received an A. All I will show is higher ranking, GPA, more volunteer hours.

So do you think this lucky chance really means that I should improve my SAT or are they okay with it and want to see higher grades?

I feel like if they really had an issue with my SAT scores they would have flat out rejected me.

If you haven’t gone for an interview I think you should do that! Obviously what stands out for you is your personality because of your essays, so I think you should show them that you’re a really good fit for the school by going to an interview and maybe sending your regional admissions counselor and e-mail telling her/him how you you’re still interested in Uchi and how it’s still your first choice! SATs really aren’t everything, if not they would’ve denied you already!

I feel I am much more interesting of a person on paper than in person which is why I have avoided interviews for several universities. Maybe I am just overreacting though.
I am taking the SAT again in January so I am really hoping to raise that stubborn math score. I think the e-mail is a good idea as well.
Thanks!

U of Chicago does not appear to value high standardized test scores. My son was deferred with a 33 on the ACT. They also only consider CR and Math for SATs so if the OP retakes he should concentrate on raising those scores.
