Debater1996 Let me know where you apply!

@jcampos6, Please go to UChicago application status check site and then look for a status update in the page. You will see the decision letter after click the link.

do admitted students still get scarves?? :)

@hopefully

Will do. So far, I’m for sure on my state’s flagship, as well as Georgetown and Northwestern.

Hi guys, I was sadly deferred as well
Do you guys know where I can request a local alumni interview? I looked all over my UChicago account, but I just can’t find that request button!

@Debater, seem like you an I are in the same boat. I am totally lost at this point in regards as to where to apply. When the whole college finding thing came up, my school’s counselor was on maternity leave and she comes to my school once a month for 2 hours, so it’s impossible to meet with her. I pretty much had to find my own colleges with zero help, and the only college I could really see myself in was this. So, it’s a huge bummer for me, but I think I’m going to listen to Emerson. Transcendentalism has always appealed to me anyways, so I’m fine with living by a quote of one…meanwhile I just have to accept being deferred and hope we can all manage a way in in March.

And congrats to everyone that got in! Hearing of your success and your joy is what’s keeping me from being upset about my own deferral. I’m sure it’s a well deserved acceptance for all of you!

@Debater I am with you! I have been searching for colleges since, I kid-you-not, 5th grade and I am still totally lost.

5th grade? I didn’t even know the difference between a bachelors and a masters until like, 10th grade.

@debater but northwestern is binding ed. how could you be in and not withdraw your uchi app?

Hi everyone else who also got gloriously deferred,

Don’t feel alone in this. I spent the past 4 hours trying to revise my entire college list. It is as uncertain as it gets, and this feeling almost makes me sick. But truly, I think we will all end up in great places(I am trying to convince myself at this very moment.)
@debater @footiesc I feel better knowing people are in the same boat.
congratulations, we are as close to warriors as we can get. Stay on the battle, fight hard, and life will reward you.

i feel like this thread should now be called uchicago deferees 2018

Well, to those who got accepted:

CONGRATULATIONS :D

To those who got deferred:

DON’T GIVE UP!!

^Be sure to take a look at the link above.

I don’t think you need to try to IMPROVE YOUR ESSAYS, YOURSELF or whatever right now. I think you need to CONTEXTUALIZE your essays and activities EVEN FURTHER. It definitely helps if you can show more about YOU, about YOURSELF, that you thought the admissions officer never saw before. If you had not written the optional essay, you might consider writing it.

Good luck guys! I had real fun chatting with so many of you, like marshmellow etc. last night. It’s so different from other college threads!

@thebigred14 Curious: how much money is a Dean’s scholarship renewable for?

What a great writing by Grace Chapin (Ms. UChicago) !!!

University of Chicago has a great admission officer.
Wish it help the UChicago CCers who were unfortunately deferred in high competition but still have a positive mind like debater1996 and others.

Hi guys. Talking to you all last night, I was SURE a few of you that ended up deferred would get in. Their loss. I was deferred also. Does anyone know if we stand a real chance or…? Did anyone get rejected?

so my friend told me this theory that since there was a dramatic dramatic increase in apps this year, we feel like the admission officers deferred a lot of candidates because they really didn’t have time for a proper read through

@fffighting
I wish. I’d feel better about myself thinking the admissions staff were overwhelmed than thinking they reviewed my application and consciously decided to defer me, lol

like, how did uchicago read through the apps when it’s 2-4 times higher than A LOT of other equal institutions like Upenn or Harvard or Yale?
Especially given that UChicago has a lot of essays.

I feel depressed.

@ironchariot

I meant that I was for sure on applying, not being accepted. My fault that there was a lack of clarity with the wording. I have not yet applied to Northwestern, my state’s flagship, or Georgetown, but I will.
