And really, in my opinion, this discussion about test scores and GPAs isn’t doing anything for anyone and guess what – as soon as we all get into amazing schools that are the perfect fit for us, we’ll never care about our HS GPA’s and standardized test scores again Also, as so many people have pointed out, UChicago is one of the most holistic schools out there, and since you all seem like fantastic people, I think you all have a great shot at getting in, test scores aside.

@Awflapjackz don’t feel that way! I’m sure your essays were fantastic and unique like everyone else’s. You clearly show passion for UChic, so I’m sure that made it to your essays and made them magical. Curiosity gets to me here, but do you want to exchange essays over PM?

guys, i just found out that i didn’t send any of my AP score to UChicago. But I did indicate on my Common app that i am a national AP scholar.
Is not sending my ap score gonna hurt my chance in any way?

@applicant15 yeah, we could do that! lower my self-esteem even more after i read yours. haha, kidding. i haven’t had any fellow uchicago applicants read mine, so it would be useful :)

@mahoushojo did you self report scores? you don’t need to send the official score report from ap

@ogacihcu I don’t man I feel that the 740 is only going to hurt me considering my grades are low too. But who cares, all of this is just heaped together to spit out one decision, that if deferred or rejected will last ten seconds or so and then you can forget about it. And an acceptance, well I won’t be presumptuous by even discussing it. Really really banking on that holistic process though. I can just feel the exhilaration run through my veins. Wow.

@mahoushojo Relax. It should not hurt you as long as your transcript shows you took the class for the AP. Self reporting the AP score would be nice as it would let admissions know if your class did a good job preparing you and how the class was compared to the rest of the nation (based on the score you got). Even if you did not self report, schools must send school reports (counselor does this) and in part of the report is sometimes a breakdown of AP scores at the school. Finally, scores themselves are NOT used in admissions as a pivotal factor-only to cross check your capabilities at times.

@wethemusicmakers “Why not us?” Haha I like that way of looking at it.

@Awflapjackz I’m sure your essays are great. I think my approach was drier than some of the ones people have posted here, but at the end of the day we already submitted our applications and what’s done is done. There are so many things that go into the app, and some of them are almost certainly how the admissions counselors are feeling and the number of applicants and the ‘needs of the class’. I’m just hoping that my some miracle we get in, but it’s a gamble for everybody and your chances are at least as good as mine. @Applicant15 is right! You’re clearly so interested in the school. I’m counting on that counting for something haha.

@unproductive If the 740/800 that you got on a test that you didn’t even have to take for this application ruins your application, 1. we’re all screwed, and 2. I don’t know why you submitted it in the first place.

@Applicant15 That’s some really interesting information about AP scores, thanks!

Ugh I wish I could exchange essays with some of you but I can’t bring myself to touch the files. If I reread them I’ll find everything that’s wrong with them and it’ll probably kill me.

@mahoushojo Probably not. However, if your transcript shows an AP class and you did not self report the score, you run the risk of an admissions officers assuming one of two things - either you were not motivated enough to take the exam or you took the exam and got a 1. Since you did not report any scores, they probably will just assume that you chose not to report. At this point, it’s water under the bridge. The good news is that AP scores are used primarily for credit and/or placement and carry little to no weight in the admissions process at most universities.

@ogacihcu i think you’re giving me much more credit than i deserve! haha, i really hope that we’re both accepted. i say the same things over and over again on this thread but i am honestly so anxious!

@Awflapjackz No way. You deserve this. It’s a numbers game, so if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen, but all of you are great and we’ll be fine wherever we end up.

Aaaahhh okay does somebody want to exchange essays with me? Just please promise me that you won’t tell me about the horrible errors that you find.

@ogacihcu you deserve it just as much as me! yeah, it’s just going to boil down to such small differences between applicants that make the difference. all of us here seem qualified, so yeah…

I won’t stop anyone from discussing stats and applications, but for the sake of livening up the conversation: what are people looking forward to most if they get accepted?

Personally, I’d be thrilled to sit in one of the student coffee shops for far too long, and walk through the campus in autumn when the leaves change.

@JustinTheory I’d love to do so many things! I’m probably most excited about the classes, honestly. It’s not that I’m dying to do all of the actual work, but I’d do anything to be as knowledgable and able to learn as I would be after four years at UChicago and the Core. I’m looking forward to playing on the women’s club ice hockey team, because that looks like an absolute blast. And scav! That would be the coolest thing. I love the ides of the housing communities.
