I’m like you, but lower GPA and higher scores. 3.68 UW GPA and 32 ACT (33 superscore). I was also accepted at Tulane (haven’t received merit award yet - if at all), but rejected at WashU ED.

@Ctesiphon I like your score… It will compensate your GPA. I wish I had something 32 or high but sounds like 30 is my best. What did you write for your essay?

both of you definitely have a chance. keep your heads up

@Awflapjackz No I do not… I have already been rejected by Amherst. This school is even more competitive than Amherst. I am just going to open my portal and see my status and realize how aweful I am

@Awflapjackz I wanted to thank you for always being so optimistic and nice to everyone, it really helps keep me from freaking out!

@Awflapjackz Thank you too though!

but guys, isn’t it true that UChicago put more emphasis on our essays than on our stats? So if our essays are creative/well-written, then we all have a good shot to be at least deferred?

@JK0919 Amherst and UChicago are totally different. Your UChicago essays will play a big role there, and you didn’t send those to Amherst, so don’t look down on yourself! You’ve got a great profile and a great shot at getting in. All the best.

@JK0919 despite the similar caliber of the schools, they still differ in their admissions process. you might be pleasantly surprised on wednesday. if it doesn’t work out, it’s their loss.

Yeah in the View Chicago video the guys said the essays are “crucial” and can basically make or break your decision!

Could someone see if my essay is interesting? I wrote about why some word should not be translated. I picked 대한민국, which is republic of Korea. I tried to explain how the each letter has its own meaning in history, politics, and culture. Also I wrote about how I would do my academics and other stuff for second essay in great details-I mentioned classes that I am interested in-one of them was about Michaevallie, about clubs that I want to participate and also internships. Third one I wrote about three movies in my life - Gone with the Wind, The Golden Age, and Sound of Music. Could someone say about them and see if they are good enough? I am so nervous of them

And Thank you everyone for being so kind and cheerful. I was really depressed thinking I am so worthless. But obviously you all make me stand up all again

For my common app essay it was really typical ones. I wrote about my grandfather’s house as my most content place (which I tries to show how humane I am) as well as my additional essay about my past experiences in Nursing home.

@JK0919 if you would like to exchange essays via message, i’d gladly participate :^)

I’m open to exchanging essays. I wasn’t planning on it, but I think I could use the feedback (although the final versions were submitted more than a month ago). If anyone’s interested, please send me a message and I’ll send one back. EA applicants only please.

@JK0919, don’t ever say or even consider for a moment that ur “worthless”, i am sure your essay is great and if UChicago for whatever reason defers/rejects you, then it’s their loss of a great student for its diversity.

Thank you I am now calmed down and settled down

Sorry for the late reply guys. XD I don’t use college confidential as much.

Got deferred to MIT, but #yolo. UCHIC > MIT

@adelawang I loved the UCHIC essay questions. They were really interesting.

@alleycat2 Sofrita is basically tofu with spices & herbs. Really delicious in my opinion. XD

I’m really excited for Wednesday. I’m ready for both rejection, deferral, & rejection. Mentally prepared. Lol.

Yeah! Me too!
