So what do you think my chances are at these schools? Should I do ED Upenn or ED Columbia?
Also, what would be my chances at HYP, Stanford, Duke, Rice, JHU and WashU?

Thanks a lot guys!

Hey Phoenix. I’m EDing to Columbia too, so we’re on the same boat(though I’m an international). Your stats are certainly solid, I’d say you have a decent shot at Columbia. However, what are your views on your essays? Happy or unhappy with them? Also, what’s your intended major?

HYP are always reaches for everyone, and for you, I don’t see anything that screams STAND OUT. However, your community service record is interesting, so maybe you could elaborate on that a little?

EDIT: Stanford is a reach too. Duke, Rice and WashU are matches(although WashU is known to be a tad esoteric with its selection, so I’d call that a high match). Don’t know enough about JHU.

PS: Chance me back please :3

I think that my essays are decent, as I got them reviewed by my English teacher who said they’re pretty solid, but not like extraordinary. My teacher recs should be solid too, since Ive known them since sophomore year.

Also, Im in a dillemma as whether or not to do ED Columbia or ED Penn? Any suggestions?

Maybe you should put in extra polish, to make those essays seem a little better. It can only help you, especially at the really competitive places.

As for the college, it depends on the major, dude. I’m guessing Pre-Med? If so, both colleges are really good. It comes down to which one you can “connect” with. Do you want to be in a city, or in a more campus-y college? Try and imagine a “day in the life”, so to speak. Should give you some clarity. Your grades and standardised scores are amazing(2310 is extraordinary, at least in my part 'o the world), so you’ve a solid shot at both UPenn and Columbia.

I think you have a very good chance at all three. Best of luck.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that I am definitely going to be doing premed.

On note of WashU, I think they may possibly reject you if they expect you’re going to go somewhere else anyway if you applied elsewhere. My friend, who’s now at UPenn, got rejected from WashU just because his scores and GPA were probably too high above the school’s scattergram.

you have very viable chances especially w/ ED, you seem like a cool and dedicated student and person  your sat is phenomenal, supplement for columbia is absolutely crucial so if you put lots of thought into that you will increase your chances greatly
you have a higher chance at penn for ED, but if you like columbia more do that
wash u should work out fine, uchicago will depend highly on how you present yourself in your essays since they are looking for a particular student.
chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1572735-chance-me-ed-cornell-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

If your essays aren’t extraordinary for UChicago, your chances of getting in are drastically reduced. Their eccentric prompts make it evident that they want to see above-and-beyond creativity and eloquency when crafting the class. I, for one, went a little crazy on both essays, but I think that I’m giving the admissions officers a clear glimpse at who I am beyond the grades and test scores.

At this point, I’d advise you to apply to Columbia ED if you’re serious about the premed track. Your extracurriculars lean heavily in the direction of your intended major, but then again, early decision applicants are ALL extremely qualified – stratospheric scores, perfect (or near-perfect) grades, tons of additional activities, etc. It’ll come down to how well you express yourself and your interest in your essays; how well you create a hook for yourself.

Columbia ED: Low reach
UChicago EA: High reach
UPenn ED: Mid-high reach

But isn’t Penn much easier to get into than Columbia?

Based on the stats, not significantly. UPenn is around 25% ED admission, and Columbia is around 20%. However, your medically-oriented profile seems to fit the type of applicant typically associated with Columbia.

That is, unless you’re pinning your decision/hopes on the “EASIER” school (hint: there isn’t one). None of these schools are “easy” to get into, not even from a relative standpoint.

Yeah, I think I’m gonna end up doing ED Penn instead of Columbia, because Columbia’s applicant pool is just insane and when it comes down to it, the premed programs at both schools are pretty much on par with each other.

So, do you guys think I have a pretty good shot at getting in ED Penn ?

I’m going to echo what ForeverFish said: Applying to Penn because you think it’s easier is a stark mistake. First of all, it’s kind of an insult to the school because if you’ve been set on Columbia for so long and you want to just “get in to an easier school” that’s really not the right mindset. You should apply to the school you REALLY want to go to. Both schools’ have ridiculous applicant pools, not just Columbia. Just to put it in perspective, Columbia’s applicants may have stronger statistics, but Penn’s applicants have been duly noted as being very well-rounded individuals in the EC department. While Penn’s overall ED admission rate is around 25%, it can lower to around 20% based on the school you’re applying to. I don’t think you have a better chance at one school over the other to be perfectly honest.

Welp, ended up doing ED to UPenn

lol Upenn has a predicted acceptance rate of 23% for ED this year, as there are more than 5100 people applying ED; on the other hand, there aren’t too many people applying to Columbia this year. Your stats are awesome, your ECs are decent, but you don’t have essays that you are really satisfied with.
Uchi EA-reach (they place a lot on the essays)
Columbia RD-reach
Upenn ED-Low reach

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1574644-please-chance-my-ed-ea-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Well, I guess Ill find out tmrw if i got into Upenn…

good luck dude! your stats look solid though, best of luck!

mind chancing me for NYU Stern ED II?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1579580-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Tbh upenn premed is probably better because then it would be a bit easier to get into Perelman med school, which is definitely top 3

Nope, got rejected ED from UPenn . Kinda surprised

It’s ok you still have other schools so don’t let this discourage you.
