Anyone who was rejected or deferred care to share stats?

Northwestern because I got accepted ED obviously. It was my top school anyway.

Congrats! Please share stats if you can.

Good idea and useful to learn more… You can also share yours while asking so that others will be motivated to share their data.
Mine: SAT 1520, ACT 34, GPA 3.92/4.35, 11 AP, lot of hospital volunteering, Biology major

I’m honestly surprised I got into either with my stats
GPA 3.57/3.95, ACT 30, 13 APs, I applied to both for neuroscience and only had two solid extracurriculars which were Key Club and my job so my essays and recs must’ve been pretty good!

Of course hrsim is fine. They just got accepted to Northwestern ED like an hour ago lmao. Anyone who is accepted to their ED should obviously withdraw all of their other applications but that certainly does not have to be done literally within an hour of being accepted to your ED. Technically, if you are applying for financial aid, you have until the financial aid offer is provided to accept the ED offer and then cancel your other applications.

Congratulations! I agree, it sounds like your essays and letters of recommendation were stellar.

Now that colleges have gone SAT/ACT blind, personal character, story, circumstances and references are more important than ever. Go take a look at all of the 1600 SAT, legacy and president of everything/master of nothing applicants who got rejected from Yale on this website and the Yale subreddit.

EA accepted w/merit scholarships and Rudolf Carnap Scholar Award for “demonstrating great academic potential in the humanities”

The majors I listed in order were philosophy, economics, and big questions
4.43/4.0 GPA (3.98 UW)
1510 SAT
We don’t rank
National merit commended and National Hispanic Recognition
AP Scholar with Distinction
Winner of a Fatherhood Essay Contest
9 AP Classes
Starting English tutoring program at our school (already approved) after teaching my mother English, cross country sectional, regional, and conference awards, executive board of three clubs, independently read a ton of philosophy and literature and met regularly to discuss the books with my ethics teacher and included the list in the additional information (some authors include Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Nietzche, C.S. Lewis—got through War and Peace last summer), Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Youth Leadership Institute
LORs: One of the highlights of my application, had a really close bond with both teachers including my counselor
Essays: Took a risk by writing about unique topics (although perhaps not that unique by UChicago standards). My why UChicago started by talking about a gang map that I downloaded on my phone, and my uncommon essay was about my enmity with geese. After just reading them over, I realized that I had a blatant typo on my why UChicago essay—but it doesn’t matter now!
Hooks: (half) Hispanic and first-generation, also good enough to walk on to the cross country team
Reflections: You can chalk up my acceptance to my hooks, but I have been working extremely hard the last few years not necessarily to make myself a good college applicant, but more so to explore my interests, try to make a difference in my community, and develop myself as a person. I am immensely grateful towards everyone who has helped me in my journey including these forums. Having parents who don’t know much about college, these forums have made me aware of opportunities I never knew existed. I might throw a couple applications to some more T10 colleges, but I am convinced that UChicago is a perfect fit for me. Thank you

Ninjafroggy10, you are exactly what I am talking about … just your mini synopsis of your application reads intelligent, intellectually curious and genuine. You pursued passions and interests, not to “build a resume”, but because you had true intellectual interest.

Your hooks are helpful but you come across as a real person, a person that would be fun to have coffee with and discuss literature and philosophy. That’s why you got in. You’re honest and you’re interesting. And I agree, U Chicago is a GREAT fit for you. You may want to consider Yale, Brown, Pomona and Swarthmore too. Congratulations!
