For EA, do they ever reject?

I was rejected

1570; 5.1/5.2 GPA; five 5s and one 4; my ecs were pretty good (president of an honors society, varsity runner, worked with my Grandma’s organization in Kenya, research internship, etc.); I did “what can be divided by zero” and wrote a thing about how, if we use the word zero in different languages, we can divide the world by zero (and I talked about my own study of Spanish and Japanese, eventually coming down to how the world shouldn’t be divided by zero).

Accepted. Ed. 1560. All 5s ap. National merit semi finalist. Probably stellar recs - focused extra curricular. I am relieved and grateful. Also - to those who were deferred or rejected- there are options out there for you that will be the right match. We all fit into our intended puzzle in unique ways. I know you will ease into place in the most perfect way.

Sorry to hear. You seem to have decent stats and special background. Our counselor did tell us that EA does not have much of a chance with Chicago. Time to move on.

My DK got deferred EA. 4.0 GPA, 5% rank, Varsity sports, 1560 SAT, NMSF, many volunteer activities and a research. Like others, big disappointment.

Deferred EA :P. 1550 SAT, 36 ACT, 4.0 UW/Class rank 1, many APs/IBs, awards in robotics/ programming/debate

accepted ea - 3.81 uw/4.8 w, top 10% - test optional (had a 31), did not submit ap scores. i had nice involvement (co-editor of school paper with publications in local and state newspaper, debater all four years, founded model un, did research that was published). the major i put on my application was global studies

my uncommon essay was about my notebook, and i talked about the adventures i took with it. i chose the past prompt about mailing letters to trees in australia. this was 800 words

for my why uchicago, i started by talking about how i read about random things late at night for fun, and talked about how i discovered and learned about uchicago. i talked about my major (global studies) and why i wanted to do it, the core, student life, and extracurriculars. this was also around 800 words

i don’t know if i’m gonna commit yet, but as of now i’m the only student in my town to get in. everyone i know was deferred. i might drop some schools from my list and add 2 more schools to call it a cycle lmao.

No, I didn’t. Deferred which I take as rejection.

For those who were accepted, did your letter contain information about merit scholarships? I’m wondering if my daughter is out of the running for merit scholarships since her acceptance didn’t reference any.

Deferred EA. International curriculum, but a 95% which I’m assuming counts as a 4.0, 1570 on the SAT (submitted), national/international speaking awards and some debate and coding awards, editor of more than one school publication, multiple student government positions, personal business w/ 600+ reached, and a bunch of personal projects. Applied for CS, so I don’t know if that’s what screwed me over, because EA has become defer central.

Deferred EA. International, GPA 9.94/10.00, applied without SAT, national writing awards, leadership positions at a state level, run multiple campaigns on social justice. Intended major in Sociology. Why UChicago was about how things on the internet do not actually exist and for the prompt I wrote a story about one of the games I used to play and how everything is changing (pretty basic subject, unique story and perspective though…). Anyway, congrats to all who applied, reading these posts you can see we all went against incredible people, it was more a matter of matching. Good luck with the other applications!!

My letter actually started right off the bat with some merit scholarships. I was a little confused at first because it didn’t say the usual “congrats on being accepted to xyz”, but after a few seconds, I realized that they wouldn’t be giving me merit scholarships unless I was in.

Yeah, mine listed two right at the beginning of the letter.

Congrats Ninja - it’s no surprise you were admitted given what you posted here. My third year DC is a phil major (intensive track) so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

@JBStillFlying

Hey JB! Been a while! Figured I’d post under my new nom de guerre (which is quite an understatement for this board! ) lol…

And it’s decision time again, huh?! Wow, time does fly! Hope all’s well. Kid from UChi is home; he’s had an awesome quarter, made many friends (one of whom will be joining him in Orlando this weekend for a little vacay), and seems to be handling the course load really well (thinks he might get all A’s except for Econ)…lol…

Just wanted to pop in to say hi and wish all the kiddos (and their respective parents) good luck! :four_leaf_clover:

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it! :christmas_tree: :santa: Happy Holidays to those who don’t! (even the haters…lol)

:v:
