Hello! This is for anyone applying ED II to UChicago.
Is this also for those deferred from EA who are considering switching to ED II from RD?
@JBStillFlying3 Ofc it is! I was also deferred EA, and will be applying ED.
Me too guys!! I hope we’ll make the most out of it! As we wait, what are you guys planning on applying to? I mean like what major? I for one am looking for biological science.
How do you switch from RD to ED II after being deferred? I’m looking to do that and I’m not sure how.
Planning on majoring in physics, btw.
@lovesmath call/email your regional adcomm will be the fastest way
Majoring in Neuroscience (hopefully with Biology as well!). I emailed my adcomm this morning, no confirmation yet, and it doesn’t appear as if anything had been changed in my portal yet.
Are you guys going to be sending in any more additional materials? (other than Mid-Years)
They suggest not sending things that doesn’t elevate your application. So unless ur getting may major awards or anything new happened, they suggest not to. Just stay in touch with your adcomm. Hopefully mine replies back quick because I haven’t received anything although I emailed my adcomm as well.
The ED 2 pool might be the most competitive pool EVER! For any school. Not only many EA 1 deferred, but all the HYPSC rejects, including many deferred by HYPSC.
Completely agree with @davidchen17. I said the same thing on the main EA/ED thread.
Yeah…hopefully rejects from other schools can’t write a convincing Why UChicago so that kids that have it as their absolute first choice get the slots. As far as EA deferrals…not all of them are willing to commit to this school (hence why they didn’t do ED I). Some people are (such as myself) and the reason I didn’t do ED I was bc of finances but I was able to work something out…other deferrals might not be as willing after getting deferred especially since it is binding.
as far as competitiveness from other people- it seems to me that a lot of schools have been hitting defer on a lot of EA and ED students this year. All of these kids that get deferred from their first choice are going to bind themselves to another school before getting a final decision from their number one.
My writing was recently published in a magazine, should I just write on a word doc that that happened and then submit it into my portal or…?
I don’t see any reason why you can’t include “I have not applied ED because of finances but other than that UChicago is my absolute top choice” in your deferral letter.
From a pure game theory perspective, UChicago admissions probably sees applicants that are on the edge like this:
Rich, really wants to come > really wants to come but needs aid > only kinda wants to come
They’re going to assume ED skews rich and (obviously) they have to come if admitted. The only question mark for EAers is whether they’re EAing because they’re being strategic or because they can’t be sure they can afford it. So it’s in your best interest to be absolutely clear that you’re in the more desirable group to admit.
My adcomm just replied, and I have successfully been switched to ED II!
@amwarren yay! I’m still waiting. Btw my adcomm is Will Herald from Florida, and I have seen some post with him not replying. Don’t blame him tho due to such amount of applicants. Do you suggest me calling Chicago tomorrow if I don’t get any response?
I’ll be switching to ED II. Might as well get rejected a few months earlier.
^^^^ Big mood, but anyway I chose to also do EDII after getting deferred. Thinking about rewriting my “why UChi” essay, but in a more unique way. Not sure if that’ll be too extra though. Also do you think if I add a supplemental rec from someone other than a teacher would be too much as well? Really tryna do all I can to get in, and I wanted to get more opinions on both ideas.
One supplemental rec from outside is fine. D submitted one with her application (and was accepted).
